Ever dreamt of working with the Ministry of Law and Justice? Now is your chance to grab an extraordinary opportunity. The Department of Legal Affairs, Government of India (GoI) has brought the Young Professionals program for Master’s degree holders in law. It will allow the aspirants to work with various organs of the government, such as the High Courts, the Supreme Court, the Union Government, and various State Governments.

What Does the Department of Legal Affairs Do?

The Department of Legal Affairs is an important part of the Indian legal system. It has the power to offer legal advice to various Ministries and Departments of the GoI in legal matters. It includes the interpretation of the Constitution of India and appearing on behalf of the Union of India in courts.

In this respect, the candidates chosen for this role will be selected to assist the department in dispensing these services as legal consultants.

Eligibility for the Young Professionals Program

Aspiring candidates have to fulfill the following criteria to be eligible for the recruitment of the Young Professionals in the Department of Legal Affairs, Government of India (GoI).

Terms and Conditions

The candidates will be hired for a period of 1-3 years, depending on their performance and KPIs. There are certain conditions for the appointment of the candidates:

  1. They could be appointed on a full-time basis. However, they will not be allowed to take up any assignment other than what they are assigned by the department.
  2. The appointment is of temporary nature and can be canceled by the department at any time.
  3. The total number of professionals appointed by the department depends on the requirement at a particular point in time.
  4. The place of posting is Delhi.

Young Professionals program, Department of Legal Affairs: Selection Process

The following steps have to be cleared to be selected for the post of Young Professionals in the Department of Legal Affairs, Government of India (GoI).

Step 1: The Department of Legal Affairs would advertise the position from time to time on:

  • Its website
  • Newspaper (both Hindi and English)
  • Employment News/Rozgar Samachar

Step 2: Screening of the candidates based on:

  • Education qualification
  • Work experience
  • Research experience
  • Post qualification

Step 3: Candidates will sit for a written exam for merit-based ranking. The exam shall have the following topics:

  • Constitution of India
  • Indian Penal Code
  • Code of Criminal Procedure
  • Indian Evidence Act
  • Indian Contract Act
  • Code of Civil Procedure
  • Administrative Law
  • Legislative Drafting

Step 4: The shortlisted candidates will appear before a panel committee.

Step 5: Final selection.

Young Professionals program, Department of Legal Affairs: Salary

The selected candidates who clear the section process will be entitled to a consolidated sum of INR 60,000.

On the basis of their performance in the succeeding years, their remuneration will also be increased. It would be done at 10% of total remuneration annually.
