Formula Student Team AXLR8R from IIT Delhi claims victory

Formula Student competitions are the biggest university-level design competitions. They were started with the aim to test whether or not the future engineers are industry-ready. Students build a single-seat formula-style race-car with which they compete against 118 other teams from around 25 nations. ​Backed by tech-giants, this competition often serves as the hiring ground for many companies. In addition, along with direct internship offers, students are offered job opportunities.​ A huge platform thus, this is the competition which has helped us showcase our talents.

Formula Student Germany 

An international competition, Formula Student Germany is held every year in Hockenheimring, Germany. Students have to build a prototype for evaluation. With rules similar to that of Formula SAE, students design and fabricate a one-seat formula car. Further, the cars are evaluated and compared every year in Hockenheimring. The prime objective of this competition is to help students learn the various aspects of automotive engineering practically. 

Our Performance at Formula Student Germany 2019

Our team strived to achieve perfection and created its place in the following areas:

• Became the first Indian electric team in history to have cleared all the Technical Inspections
• The only Indian electric team to score points in Dynamics events
• Successfully completed all the tests
• Completed the autocross and acceleration event
• Completed 13 laps out of 18 in endurance event on the Formula1 track, becoming the 15th most efficient car.

Our Journey so Far

Having created history in Formula Student Germany 2019 by becoming the first Indian electric vehicle to qualify for dynamic events, we have been re-writing history for three years now.

• National Champion in Design event of Formula Bharat Electric Design Challenge, 2018 and overall Runners Up in Formula Bharat 2019, Electric Category​
• The only non-European team to qualify for FS Germany and FS Austria, 2019​
• Lone non-European team to qualify for Formula Student Germany, 2017
• Only Indian electric team to participate thrice at FS Germany, World’s Biggest University level Design Competition
• A fast-growing electric team in India, bagging the place of the national champion in our 3rd year only while there are teams active in the electric category since 2011-12
• Finished Formula Student Germany Electric cost event at 18th position​
• Qualified Formula Student Germany, 2017 with a world ranking of 4
• Was the 1st India team to participate in Dynamic events at International Formula Student Event in Combustion (2009) and the first to do so at FS Germany in Electric (2019) category as well.

• Motor - Brushed Permanent magnet DC motors, Peak Power - 2 x 36 kW
• Suspension: Double Unequal length, optimised steel A-arm 

We have started the new FS season with new goals listed down. Filled with intense enthusiasm and passion, we are ready with a well-planned timeline. We will be participating in Formula Student Germany again but this time with a doubled zeal, with an aim to give a cut-throat competition to the top international teams.
