To provide financial assistance to students from poor families, the Ministry of Education, Government of India is awarding scholarships to students on the basis of scores in the Class XII Board Examination under the PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Yojna (PM-USP). The scholarship shall help students to meet their day-to-day expenses while pursuing higher studies. 

Who Will the Scholarship Benefit? 

Scholarships shall be provided to students pursuing graduation or postgraduation in colleges and universities and for professional courses, such as Medical, Engineering, etc. More than 80,000 scholarships are provided annually, 50% of which are earmarked for girls. 

Eligibility for PM-USP Yojna Scholarship

The following students would be eligible to apply for the scholarship: 

  • Students who are above the 80th percentile of successful candidates in the relevant stream from the respective Board of Examination in Class XII of 10+2 pattern or equivalent; 
  • Students pursuing regular degree courses from institutes recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education and respective Regulatory Bodies concerned. Correspondence or distance mode or pursuing Diploma courses students are not eligible.
  • Students not availing the benefit of any other scholarship schemes including State-run scholarship schemes/ fee waiver & reimbursement schemes.
  • The parental/family income of the student must be up to Rs. 4.5 lakh per annum. 

Amount and Duration of PM-USP Scholarship

Under the official guidelines for the PM-USP scholarship, the students shall be awarded INR 12,000 per annum at the graduation level for the three years of College and University courses. After 3 years of graduation, the eligible candidates shall receive INR 20,000 per annum at the post-graduation level. 

Students pursuing professional courses with 5 years of duration (such as MBBS or Integrated courses) shall get INR 20,000 per annum in the 4th and 5th year. However, students pursuing technical courses such as B.Tech, B.Engg. will get a scholarship up to graduation level. Thus they would get INR 12,000 per annum for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year and INR 20,000 in the 4th year. 

Note: The selected andidates must possess a bank account. The scholarship will be directly deposited into the savings bank accounts of the beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. 

How to apply? 

The applications for the PM-USP scholarship must be received online only. Interested students can apply using this link.

The online applications will be verified by the Institute, where the student is studying, and later by the concerned State Higher Education Department. 

The last date for applying for this scholarship scheme is 31st October 2022. Hence, apply timely.
