QS Rankings 2024: No Indian College In Top 100
Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) released its annual QS World University Rankings 2024 list and no Indian institute made it to the top 100 on the list. IIT Bombay, ranked at 149th position, is the first in the country. It’s followed by IIT Delhi, ranked at 197.
QS Rankings is an annual ranking list of the world’s best universities, considered to be one of the most widely-read university rankings in the world. The first edition came out in 2004. This is the 20th edition of the QS World University Rankings. The current edition features 1,500 institutions across 104 locations and takes into account three new metrics - Sustainability, Employment Outcomes, and International Research Network.
For the twelfth time in a row, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) ranked at the top position. It was followed by the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford, in that order.

This year, for the first time, a university from Asia made it to the top 10 - the National University of Singapore. It ranked at the 11th spot last year.

Among this year’s top three ranked universities, only IIT Bombay improved from last year. Both IISc Bengaluru and IIT Delhi slipped in rankings, along with IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, and IIT Madras from the top 10.
Changing Parameters Defeat India’s Best
The addition of three new parameters this year led to a change in the weightage awarded to each parameter. Consequently, the rankings for many universities changed, including Indian universities.
Reports suggest that Indian universities, especially, slipped in ranks due to the addition of the indicator - International student ratio. Per the QS Rankings 2024, India scores lower than countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam on this indicator.

The QS university rankings are also divided by subjects such as arts and humanities, engineering and technology, business and management studies, etc. The QS rankings 2024 by subject have not yet been released.
