Considered ‘the most widely viewed’ university ranking, QS World University Rankings is an annual publication by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). Amongst various rankings released by QS, World University Rankings by Subject are one of the most critical ones that help prospective students in identifying the leading universities in a particular subject. Research citations, along with the results of major global surveys of employers and academics, are used to rank universities on a global level.
This year several Indian universities have made it to the world’s top positions, especially in STEM fields. As many as 44 programmes (as compared to 35 in 2022) from various campuses in India have made it to the global top 100. The ranking criteria included academic reputation, employer reputation, partnerships with employers, alumni outcomes, employer-student connections and more. According to a press release by QS, Indian higher education institutions have performed exceptionally well in several fields, including Computer Science, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Business Studies, and Physics. The evaluation of universities was based on five broad categories, which encompassed engineering and technology, arts and humanities, life sciences and medicine, natural science, and social sciences and management.
