Housing brands such as Nescafé, Kit Kat, Nesquik, Vittel, and Maggi, Nestlé employs more than 3,08,000 people around the world and is the largest food company in the world, measured by revenues and other metrics, since 2014. With its mission of Good Food, Good Life, Nestlé has participated in business activities since its inception, which help in improving the quality of life for the communities where it operates. In the backdrop of an unprecedented crisis, it has again done a diligent job by hosting Maggi - Desh ke Liye 2 Minute - The Agri Challenge 2020. 

With an aim to design innovative solutions to help the weaker sections of the society overcome the impact of the pandemic, The Agri-Business Challenge 2020 was crafted to connect the youth with agriculture and articulate great ideas to solve some on-ground challenges. 

To lend a helping hand to the farmers by engaging the brightest young talent to solve the problems plaguing them, The Agri Challenge 2020 invited 26 premiere B-Schools that attracted over 5,394 registrations and made close to 5,00,000 impressions!

Small steps to make a big difference

Spanned across 3 stages, Desh ke Liye 2 Minute - The Agri Challenge 2020 commenced with the introduction of the Case study through a virtual launch of the event. The team did everything inch-perfect to resolve the queries of the students by parallelly conducting a QnA session. The virtual launch was followed by 3 stages:

Stage 1: Opening Round with Case Submission

Stage 2: Virtual Semi-Finals with Case Presentation

Stage 3: Virtual Grand Finale

Once all the teams submitted their 3-slider presentation, the assessors and jury members from Nestlé India as well as renowned voices in the agri-business field evaluated the case submissions. The top 12 shortlisted teams across campuses were then moved to the semi-finals where they were assessed on the basis of the 5-minute presentation and 10-minute Q&A. Recorded in 3 episodes with 4 teams presenting in each episode, this round was aired on Network 18 channel led by CNN-News 18. The shortlisted 3 teams then proceeded to the grand finale stage.

The startling day that highlighted impressive solutions in the Desh ke Liye 2 Minute - The Agri Challenge 2020 Grand Finale was also recorded and aired on Network 18 channel led by CNN-News 18. The winning entry now is supposed to collaborate with Nestlé India for the implementation of the idea that definitely has the potential to impact millions of lives!

From the judges' table…

The judges were on the lookout for a holistic and implementable model with or without partnerships. They gave in-depth feedback with well-defined and documented examples. 

The illustrious panel of the Finale jury consisted of Mr. Suresh Narayanan, chairman and MD, Nestlé India Ltd., Mr. Sanjay Sacheti, Country Manager, Olam Agro India Pvt. Ltd.,and Dr. Kiran Kumar Sharma, Deputy Director General - Research Director, CGIAR Research Program - Grain Legumes and Dryland Cereals, CEO - Agribusiness and Innovation Platform. They evaluated the solutions on the basis of sustainability and scalability. The impact on 3 pillars – people, planet, and profit was equally valued. 

The torch-bearers of change

Facing a cut-throat competition, all the shortlisted 12 teams got down to business and played their cards right. Each team displayed their best presentation skills and solutions that flabbergasted the audience and the jury. The teams that made it to the Semi-finals are:

After a tough competition among themselves, 3 teams made it to the Maggi - Desh ke Liye 2 Minute - The Agri Challenge 2020 Grand Finale from SIIB Pune, SCMHRD Pune and MDI Gurgaon. Their ceaseless efforts and innovative solutions to help the weaker sections of the society to overcome the impact of the pandemic astonished everyone. The winning squad is as follows:

To rewards their grit and grace, the Nestlé India team awarded the National winners, first runners-up, and the top 12 teams entering into semi-finals a decent cash prize and once-in-a-lifetime chance to be featured on network 18 TV broadcast.
