There are a lot of research scholarships to keep a track of for Indian students that supposedly cover all academic liabilities. The Indian government, in association with the other governments, private and public colleges, universities, institutions and organizations offers a great deal of research scholarships. These research scholarships are offered by various research institutions so that students can carry out research in their specific fields of study. Some institutions such as Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), National Institute of Technology (NITs), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune (IISER) provide grants to the scholars so that they pursue their studies and research further.

- Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund Scholarship: Candidates who have secured a minimum of 60% marks in both their graduation and postgraduation and are below the age of 35 years are eligible for this scholarship which remains applicable for two years. Postgraduate students, who are registered in a Ph.D. program at any recognized institution in India can apply for it. The scholarship helps specialization and research in fields such as History, Economics, Geography, Sociology, Ecology, Environment and many others.

- SERB National Post-Doctoral Fellowship (N-PDF): This fellowship aims at focusing on the talented, young researchers and providing them with the right impetus to carry their research works in the fields of science and technology. Students who have achieved a Ph.D./MD/MS degree from a recognized university or institution and are below the age of 35 years can apply for the fellowship, and avail benefits to carrying out their specialized research. The candidates who are awaiting the award of their Ph.D./MD/MS degrees and have submitted their thesis are also eligible for the fellowship. A lower fellowship amount shall be received by them until they receive their respective degrees.

- Teachers Association for Research Excellence (TARE): Students who hold a Ph.D. degree in Science, MD/MS in medicine or ME/MTech in engineering are eligible to apply for this. TARE is an initiative of SERB where the prime aim of the research fellowship is to facilitate mobility of faculty members who work in public/private colleges, universities and other academic institutions. Through this, the candidates are eligible to opt for their research specialization in premier institutions such as IITs, NITs, IISc, ICAR, IISERs, etc. Candidates should be less than 45 years of age and there should not be any other fellowship or ongoing research that they are engaged in at the time of application.

- Prime Minister Research Fellowship (PMRF): The fellowship aims to provide the required impetus and motivation for meritorious students to promote technical research so that they pursue doctoral degrees at the premier institutes of India. Candidates who have completed or are pursuing B.Tech/M. Tech, M.Sc or integrated M.Tech or M.Sc degree are eligible for the same. The candidates are required to register at any one of the institutes granted by the Prime Minister Research Fellowship either via a direct or lateral entry channel.
