Samsung India plans to develop a solid R&D pool for both domestic and global markets by hiring more than 1,000 engineers from renowned universities like IITs and BITS Pilani this year.
Artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning (ML), deep learning, networks, and image processing are just a few of the cutting-edge technologies that the new hires will be working on. Bangalore, Noida, and Delhi are home to Samsung's three R&D centres in India.
“We, currently, have close to 9,000-10,000 engineers working at our three R&D centres. We are about to hire more than 1000+ engineers from top IITs and others. Of these 1000, 260 will be from IITs, and the rest will be from top engineering colleges, including BITS Pilani, NIITS, and IIITs, while 250 will be from pre-placement offers, the company said. This year, IIT Jodhpur and Goa will also be added to the list. This is part of our continued growth and expansion plans in India. For us, R&D has been on the front. We opened our first R&D centre in India in 1996 in Bengaluru and a factory in the same year. This shows our commitment to the Indian market and India-related products and talent. It helps us fuel the innovation from India for the domestic market as well as global territories,” said Sameer Wadhawan, Head, Human Resources (HR), Samsung India.
“This year, we had a slightly longer internship period so that students can spend more time in the company, giving them opportunity to interact with the leaders and managers. This helps us spot a bright talent amongst them. Hiring through PPOs helps both the employer and the employee get a better perspective on job fitment and satisfaction,” he added.
By recruiting students from a wide range of disciplines, including computer science and electronics and communications, electrical engineering and mathematics and computers, instrumentation and information technology, Samsung is aiming to help solve India-specific problems.
Over 7,500 patents have been filed worldwide by the corporation, with over 3,500 of those being filed in India alone. Millennials are submitting the most patents, with 50% of the inventors being first-time innovators and 27% having less than five years of experience.
SAMSUNG provides a number of upskilling options for workers, including M.Tech programmes with IIIT-B and BITS Pilani, in order to help them stay ahead of the curve in the field of future innovations.
