Team The Think Floyd from MICA Ahmedabad share the secret recipe to winning TATA Steel-a-thon 2019
Our strategy for TATA Steel-a-thon 2019 was to delve deep into the category since it was a very unfamiliar industry. On top of that, the problem faced by TATA Pravesh was unique by virtue of being a one-of-a-kind brand that provides wooden doors with a steel finish. Exploring the functional and emotional benefits of this unpopular product category that lacked awareness, was challenging.

Competing with the top 15 teams

There were 15 teams across premier B-schools of the country that presented in the finale. Almost all teams had creative and comprehensive solutions to various case studies. It is difficult to pick one specific competitor because that would mean comparing apples to oranges since different teams picked different cases.

The Think Floyd was a mixed team of first and second year students. We had a great mixture of people, having strengths in different domains. Our team's forte was creativity. We all acted as the devil's advocate for each other's arguments. We'd be lying if we said we didn't debate but that only made our solution stronger. Each one of us stood as steadfast pillars of support for each other; picking up where the other left from. We connected in-depth research with imagination to reach the solution we proposed. That's what helped us bag the winning title.

The steep learning curve

The competition saw the same kind of quality and extravagance that comes with the name of TATA. It was a once in a lifetime experience for all of us. Our learning curve was steep and the exposure we were provided with was immense.

One important thing we learnt was that no matter how comprehensive your solution is, there will always be another way, a fresh perspective to look at it. While one may think that no stone has been left unturned in trying to reach a specific solution, when you see others' presentations, you realize that there are 'n' more ways of solving the same case.

While there were innumerable awe-some moments, the one that’s special and will always be close to our hearts was the moment we were announced the National Winners of TATA Steel-a-thon 2019. In all, the competition proved to be a great learning experience.
