The Stylbiz 2019, a B-School case challenge, was recently organized by Myntra Jabong. Launched on 23rd September across the premier B-Schools of the country, the competition came to a close on 23rd October. A total of 380 teams participated, where 45 teams were selected as the regional finalists. Amongst these, the top 5 teams made it to the Grand Finale after backing their initial ideas up with customer data/ market research for the final round of evaluation. Having crowned the title of the National Winners of Stylbiz 2019, the team from IIM Kozhikode, Team Magnum Opus, shared their winning story with Dare2Compete.
From late-night case submissions to interviewing different customers day in and day out, Myntra Jabong Stylbiz 2019 was one adventure ride for us.
Our key strategy was to maintain the simplicity of the product and recommend features which are easy to use. We started with downloading almost all apps offering online clothing and then took extensive interviews of the customers who used Myntra. We worked for around 40 man-hours in round 1 and almost the same time in round-2 before reaching the national round.
Our team consisted of individuals who had prior work experience which worked in our favour. While one member was good in creating slides, the other was good in reviewing content and the third researched other apps and questioned the use-case of features.
The three of us belonged to different cities and had entirely different approaches towards purchasing apparel online. Where one member was an avid Myntra shopper, the other preferred traditional offline shopping. This also led to entertaining discussions. Due to the difference in opinions, conflicts arose. We took to taking personal interviews from different categories of buyers to resolve issues.
The team from IIM Bangalore, that eventually bagged the title of the National Runners Up, proved to be tough competitors. The flow of their presentation and the recommendations they suggested were very good.
For both the rounds, 1 and 2, the deadline was midnight. We submitted our solutions somewhere between 11:59 and 12. The adrenaline rush of that particular moment will stay etched in our memories for long.
Analyzing the recommendations of our competitors in the Finale, we learnt that simplicity is the key. In addition to thorough reading, understanding the primary requirements of the case is essential which often isn’t given importance. There is always a statement in the given case which defines the scope of the competition along with the direction the company is looking for. This eventually helped us.
The questions asked by the judges were very crisp and considered the business implications of our idea. From the Senior Program Manager to CMO, the judgement panel comprised the senior leadership. How much the company valued the competition was evident with the number of panellists present. To sum up, bagging the title of the National Winners of Stylbiz 2019 was a thrilling experience for us.
