Last year at B-School -By Shashank Kamath from TAPMI
Entering the grand entrance of TAPMI Manipal, a heart-wrenching feeling occurs when I pacify myself that this is the last year at B-school. Two months of internship was followed by a 15-Day vacation. The feeling of “School Khatam, Kaam Shuru” instilled within me. In the next 9 months, the exciting journey of 16+ years of continuous schooling would come to an end. While the world says that the world is a great teacher, student life is something which I would miss.
TAPMI you beauty you!
Entering the hilly beautiful campus of TAPMI, where the rain-soaked pitch-black roads are shining, the trees are enjoying the blowing wind by fluttering its leaves and the sky in black and white is roaring and ready to pound the earth, the nostalgia is revived. As the auto climbs the hill slope, it suddenly starts raining, a usual phenomenon for the next three months. Entering my hostel room, ecstatic to meet my room-mate and wing-mates who stay next door; from accidentally sleeping in their rooms to throwing water on newly-purchased clothes, the memory is back again. The view of the valley with River Souparnika gushing through the hills, it makes me feel more like a vacation in the hill station.
Snooze button chronicles!
Get up, Kamath. Good Morning. The 300-second snooze pushed the alarm to 0810 hours. Brush your teeth and rush to class. Your short-lived enthusiasm of the environment bursts with TAPMI Standard Time (TST). Reaching the class at 8:30 TST with an umbrella in one hand, bag unusually hung forward to the chest (so that the laptop doesn’t get wet in the rain) and occasionally blazers in the left hand, the routine has started again. Sitting in the class again is a problem. The attention span has reduced. Being the last year of B-school, the faculties are more vigilant than ever, we are finding new ways to sleep or use our phones in class, it seems like a rewind of the first year. The sleepy-little batch of mine which enjoys the coziness in the air-conditioner and seats, yet again becomes lively and competitive for the classroom participation points.
Bang came the knock on the door! Time – 2305 hours. Only 75% of the assignment is completed and I am literally banging my project mate’s dorm door. Lots of work is left. Thanks to effective procrastination of the available time, the entire group is huddling to finish the assignment. At 2350 hours, the phone beeps “Birthday at 12:00 AM at Night Canteen”. Rushing for the birthday celebration at sharp 0000 hours amidst assignments, TAPMI has again put us on track. The Night Canteen is the most happening place here. From dancing and shouting after a class/committee party to birthday celebrations to the 2:00 AM inspirational, motivational and mostly non-sense talks before the exams and assignments, things are still the same. The fight to get 300 seconds of extra sleep is still on.
Business as usual at TAPMI
With the last year at B-school, it feels good again to meet our committee members, wing-mates and hostel-mates, yet the home is something we all miss. We are all here for a purpose, to excel and move ahead in our personal and professional careers. Some make life long relations, some make excellent careers, all don’t get everything and that is what an MBA teaches us. We have our own limitations but, yet the fight is on, to succeed and make a difference into the future.
