Every year, numerous Indian students set their hopes high on enrolling in UK post-graduate programs to gain expertise and build an international network. It takes a lot of effort to get a spot in any of the prestigious universities anywhere in the world. And to not be able to pursue that dream because of financial constraints, is heartbreaking. In this article, we will list a few UK scholarships for Indian students to help them overcome this obstacle and pursue PG education in the UK. It is such scholarships that ensure that those determined to learn, really are Unstoppable.

UK Scholarships For Indian Students (Post-Graduates)

Listed in the table below are a few scholarships for Indian students to study in the UK. We have given an overview, eligibility criteria, and application link.

Chevening Scholarships in India

  • The Chevening scholarship UK is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office, and partner organizations.
  • Candidates selected under the Chevening scholarship UK are awarded the opportunity to pursue a one-year fully funded master’s degree in the UK.
  • Indian citizen (or citizen of any other Chevening country).
  • Return to country of citizenship, a minimum of two years after the award has ended.
  • Must have completed an undergraduate degree (with no backlogs) at the time of application, with at least upper second class (2:1).
  • At least 2 years (2800 hrs) of work experience.
  • Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices before the start of the program.

The applications for the 2024/25 session will open in August 2023.

Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships

  • These UK scholarships for Indian students are funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
  • The intent is to enable talented and motivated individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development. 
  • It especially targets candidates who otherwise might not be able to afford to study in the UK.
  • Citizen of/ refugee status in a Commonwealth country (here India).
  • A permanent resident of a Commonwealth country. 
  • Must be available to start studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in 2024.
  • Must hold a first degree (undergraduate) of at least upper second class (2:1) honors standard at the time of joining in 2024.
  • Unable to afford studies in the UK without this scholarship.

Interested students must apply to the CSC nominating agency in India (MoE) as well as to CSC.


The application will open in mid-2023 for the 2024/25 session.

GREAT Scholarships

  • Every year GREAT UK scholarships are available for PG Indian students at numerous institutions.
  • The fields of study vary from arts, and music, to science, engineering, medicine, etc.
  • Be an Indian citizen.
  • Must have an undergraduate degree.
  • Be motivated and interested in the proposed field/ subject of study.
  • Meet the English language requirement of the UK HEI.
  • Engage with the UK as a scholar, through personal and academic fulfillment.
  • Willing to attend a networking event for all UK-based GREAT scholars and maintain contact with the British Council and their HEI.
  • Act as a GREAT UK Scholarships ambassador, discuss experiences of studying in the UK, and occasionally be willing to speak to potential GREAT UK scholarship candidates.

Charles Wallace India Trust Scholarship

  • CWIT offers two long-term awards every year for artists and heritage professionals (all disciplines).
  • It covers 10 months (taught MA programs) to help candidates gain expertise in their chosen fields.
  • Indian citizens, living in India.
  • Between 28-38 years of age.
  • Must not have received a CWIT grant in the last five years.
  • Have a first degree, diploma, or equivalent professional qualification in the proposed field of study.
  • Preference is given to higher work experience in comparison.

The application process for this UK scholarship for Indian students will open in mid-2023 (for the 2024/25 session).

Commonwealth Fellowship Plan

  • Commonwealth Professional Fellowships are for mid-career professionals from low- and middle-income countries.
  • It gives them the opportunity to spend a period of time at a UK host organization working in their sector for a program of professional development.
  • It intends to help professionals enhance knowledge and skills in their given sector and to have catalytic effects on their workplaces.
  • A citizen of or granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country.
  • Permanent resident of an eligible Commonwealth country.
  • At least 5 years of full-time, or equivalent part-time work experience in a profession related to the field of study.
  • Be employed at an organization where you will return after completion of the fellowship.
  • Must not have undertaken Commonwealth Professional Fellowship in the past 5 years. 
  • Be available to start and complete their fellowship within the prescribed dates.

The areas of study for which Fellowships are available vary from year to year. Interested candidates whose interests align with these areas must apply before the deadline.
