UPSC 2022 Results: Second Year In A Row, Women Secure Top 3 Ranks

The UPSC 2022 results were released today and Ishita Kishore topped the exam. This is the second time in a row that a woman has topped the UPSC exam, considered one of the toughest entrance examinations in India.
Kishore is an Economics (Hons.) graduate from Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi. She qualified for the examination with political science and international relations as her optional subject.
Last year’s topper was Shruti Sharma, who scored 330 out of 400 points. Originally hailing from Bijnor, Sharma did her schooling at St. Stephens in Delhi. Sharma was followed by Kolkata's Ankita Agarwal and Anandpur Sahib's Gamini Singla.
Interestingly, women bagged the top three positions in both 2021 and 2022.
This year, Kishore is followed by Garima Lohia and Uma Harathi N. Even the fourth position this year belongs to Smriti Mishra. While Harathi studied at IIT Hyderabad, Lohia is an alumna of Delhi’s Kirorimal College and Mishra studied at Miranda House College, Delhi.
The other top rankers for UPSC 2022 are Mayur Hazarika, Gahana Navya James, Waseem Ahmad Bhat, Aniruddh Yadav, Kanika Goyal, and Rahul Srivastava.
UPSC 2022 Results At A Glance
As per the UPSC 2022 results, 933 candidates made the final list. Of these, 613 are men, and 320 are women. The final count of 933 also includes 41 Persons with Benchmark Disability.
Additionally, this year’s top 25 scorers include 14 women and 11 men.
Reportedly, these top 25 candidates opted for subjects like Economics, Political Science, Zoology, Sociology, Commerce and Accountancy, Economics, Electrical Engineering, Law, History, Mathematics, etc. as their optional choice in the Main Examination.

UPSC 2022 Examination
The UPSC examination is divided into three parts - prelims, mains, and final interview, or the personality test. At every stage, candidates are shortlisted on the basis of their scores.
As per reports, for UPSC 2022, a whopping 5.7 lakh candidates appeared for the prelim examination. Of these, only 13,090 candidates qualified for the Written (Main) Examination which was conducted from September 16 to 25. The results for the Mains were declared on December 6.
Basis the results of the Mains, 2,529 candidates qualified for the Personality Test of the examination. The interviews concluded on May 18 with 933 candidates being selected for appointment.
The selected candidates will become a part of the various civil services under the Indian Government, namely IAS, IFS, IPS, and Central Services among others.
The UPSC 2023 prelim examination is scheduled for May 28, 2023.
