A coder is the creator of languages that power our realities. Whatever we see around us- cars, computers, or any other technology- coding is the language that fuels it. A coder, also known as a programmer, creates a host of programmes and software in a variety of languages - C, C++, C#, COBOL, Assembly, Java, Python, or Lisp. A coder's task does not end here. He/She is also someone who successfully combines abstract concepts and tangible reality with the use of logic, lines of code, and mathematical calculations to bring uniqueness, power, and creativity to life.

Gone are the days when a programmer was stereotyped and thought of as a lonely person, who is socially uncomfortable and introverted. Learning to code has its cognitive benefits, falsifying the stereotype that a coder is similar to Mr. Robot. Here are 5 diverse things that a coder learns in his work environment.

Ability to think differently

The ability to think differently does not only mean thinking out of the box - it also means giving life to objects and concepts that exist in nature but are yet unexplored. This makes coders inherently creative and ingenious. The capacity to think in an abstract way is calculated through culture, work experience, and instruction rather than a natural cognitive development.

When a person starts his journey towards coding, they can automatically foresee the result and the interrelationships between different elements. This is a wonderful technique that helps the coder build his/her elusive skills which are not given enough significance by our academic education.

Devil resides in the details

Any simple coding or writing a normal programme also encourages and necessitates increased retention capacity, attention span, and precision. The C++ language, as a forerunner to other languages, does not immediately advise you on making a mistake in the code.

Coders and programmers, having learnt from their initial mistakes, develop proper analytical skills and incredible perception. This also indicates that they know the success lies in the details and quickly notice things that others may not see.

Socialising while coding

It is a false notion harboured in the minds of many that programming is an individual activity that requires little or no communication. This creates a socially awkward image and perception about the coders. On the contrary, skilled coders have phenomenal skills in communication when it comes to dealing with the goals and outcomes of the programme, and working with their team. Communication, which is the core of any work, is developed more actively when the coders are working on a group project than when they learn in a passive manner.

Coding and creativity

Coding makes the programmer reach their creative potential to the fullest. Because this process entails making something new, like assembling genetic material to create a genome - coders learn a range of things in the process. This broadens their medium of expression because even if it is a computer language, they are bringing creativity to life. Instead of blatantly consuming what the digital world wants us to consume, coding creates another world - bringing abstract thoughts to reality. This implies that the moment you begin to think that you have to generate or manufacture something on your own, your bond with technology becomes symbiotic, two-sided.

Owning your work

Coding is not easy - it comes with its own sets of challenges that open the window to a lot of possibilities. It is not rote learning where you memorise facts and data. Rather, it is owning your work to generate authenticity. Immersed in the vast expanse of software development, coders start to think beyond their textbooks and classroom teaching. There are online websites that can lend you a helping hand in this - Github and Xda-Developers. This means that coding cannot be learnt by relying just on a few publications - you need to be on a constant search for information and create your own natural resourcefulness.

Coding is not just software development or something that necessitates a sedentary lifestyle. It is bringing creativity to life. Being such a valuable skill, coding has a massive impact on both your career and social life. You can get started on this amazing journey anytime and acquire skills that will make you stand apart from others. It surely is an enviable skill!
