Wipro with its bright vision to fulfil its commitment towards sustainability has taken up an initiative- Wipro Earthian to sow the seeds of sustainable development in the young minds.
The Wipro Earthian awards program was designed as a catalyst for fostering excellence in sustainability thinking and action among young students across the country.
Wipro Earthian is one of India’s largest sustainability education programs for both school and college students. Participants can form teams with a maximum of 4 members and a minimum of 2 members. The theme for Wipro Earthian 2017 was Urban Mobility, Water and Waste. View the details of the Wipro Earthian 7.0 here.
These three themes bear a direct connection with the life of Indians in particular. With the increase in the developmental process, urban sprawl and improper waste management almost all the water bodies of the country are polluted and some of them are beyond the permissible safety limits. Piling up of wastes, lack of proper disposal mechanism has made waste management a big issue. Forever increasing space crunch and extra addition of vehicles on roads has led to frequent jams and increasing pollution. Wipro Earthian 2017 sought various sustainable development plans and strategies which could make the life on earth bit more smooth.
The program welcomed and encouraged students from all disciplines to question and explore the nature of urban sustainability to gain a deeper understanding of urban sustainability challenges.
The project involved a combination of research and field reporting. The submission for the project was required to identify a key problem and highlight the role of different stakeholders – government agencies, citizens and private agencies involved. Participants were required to explore interconnectivity between environment, economics and people in the context of the selected issue.
Wipro received over 1200 submissions from across the country and an independent jury selected eleven school and eight college teams as winning entries.
