All that you need to know about Caterpillar Autonomy Challenge
Guidelines:
A team should not have more than 5 participants. The level of autonomy and the robot's ability to operate in NLOS (non-line-of-sight) mode will also be considered during judging. The robot has to complete the given task in order to gain points. The arena is of the dimensions 9m*10m.
Event Format:
- Video Submission Round: Participants must submit a video demonstrating rover movement. All valid submissions will be accepted, allowing participants to advance. This round is non-competitive and ensures active engagement.
- Preliminary round: The rover must navigate a 1-meter-wide course, excavate sand, and return. Manual control is allowed, and the preliminary round will be conducted offline. Final qualification decisions rest with the organizing committee.
- Final round: Each robot will be given 2 attempts to travel through the arena to mine the sand. During evaluation, the points of both attempts will be added. Rules:
Rules:
- Rover maximum mass of 75kg and within a 1m*1.5m*1m envelope.
- The rover must be equipped with an easily accessible red emergency stop button or "Kill Switch" to ensure quick and reliable shutdown when needed.
- No physical access to the rover will be allowed during each competition attempt.
- GPS or IMU-enabled GPS devices are allowed but may incur penalty points.
