Latest Update: IIT Zanzibar Date of Examination Disclosed; Open To All Indian Students

In a first of its kind, the Government of India inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last week with Tanzania to establish IIT Zanzibar Campus modeled after its home campus, the IIT Madras. Preeti Aghalayam, Dean of School of Science & Engineering & Director-in-charge, Zanzibar campus, said that the home campus is proud to bring its long-term education and research strengths to East Africa. 

The 300 acres campus situated in the midst of pristine beauty will be similar to the IIT Madras facility, with verdant natural surroundings, state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories, research facilities, and innovation. The IIT Zanzibar Campus is scheduled to be completed by 2025.

IIT Zanzibar Campus: Eligibility Criteria

Below are the eligibility criteria for admission to the prestigious IIT Madras and its affiliate IIT Zanzibar:

• Students who have passed class 12 or equivalent can apply irrespective of age or academic background.
• Students who have appeared in their Class 11 final exams can apply irrespective of their group/stream/board. If qualified, they can join the program after passing Class 12.
• Students who have passed B.Sc passed.
• It is expected that the applicants have studied Mathematics and English in Class 10.

No additional eligibility other than the ones mentioned above is required to apply for the qualifier process or join the foundational level courses after clearing the qualifying exam.

IIT Zanzibar: Admission Process For Indian Students

The director of IIT Madras Prof. V. Kamakoti has informed that its office of global engagement will coordinate the student entrance process.

As per the information received from the director, the entrance process to shortlist Indian students to study at IIT Zanzibar, Tanzania will be in the format shown below:

Important Information For IIT Aspirants

A total intake of 70 students will be admitted every year for the respective courses with 50 students for Bachelors and 20 for Masters.

Classes for the first cycle of the IIT Zanzibar offshore Campus will commence in October, 2023. Faculty will be deputed from IIT Madras or recruited from India during the initial days of IIT Zanzibar campus.
