All that you need to know about Swang: Mono Act Competition
Monoact is a unique form of dramatic event that involves a solo performer who presents a short skit or play. The performer acts out single or multiple characters and tells a story through dialogue, gestures, and movements.
Dramatics Club of IIT Delhi, ANKAHI, once again brings an opportunity for all the actors to showcase their talents and win amazing prizes by participating in Asia’s largest cultural fest, Rendezvous, hosted annually by IIT Delhi.
General Guidelines
- Rendezvous, BRCA, and IIT Delhi follow a strict anti-discrimination policy. All participants are expected to refrain from any form of identity-based discrimination during the event.
- Rendezvous strives toward making its events inclusive and accessible. Therefore, in case of any participants who have any form of benchmark disability or are gender non-conforming, then the participating team should inform the event POC in advance if any necessary arrangements are required to cater to the unique needs of the participants.
- BRCA, IIT Delhi reserves the right to disqualify any team promoting obscenity through their act.
- BRCA, IIT Delhi reserves the right to cancel the prelims round in case of unforeseen circumstances.
- BRCA, IIT Delhi reserves the right to change the prize money before the commencement of the prelims.
- The organizers have all the right to cancel, reschedule, postpone, and amend the event. In the case of any dispute, the organizers' decisions are final and binding on the applicant.
Event Guidelines
- There is an Entry Fee of 100 INR per participant. Use the code ANKAHI_RDVX while registering for the competition.
- There will be a total of two rounds. The first round will be the prelims, and the second round will be the finals.
- The Act can be performed either in Hindi or English.
- Any entry found using obscene language, pornographic materials, vulgarity, or defamatory statements about, but not limited to, any person, company, organization, or entry will be disqualified.
- No professional assistance is permitted; the participant should be a certified student of the institute. Please bring your identity card for verification.
- We highly discourage any plagiarism in the event. Any team found copying a play without any prior permission of the play writer will be disqualified.
- Obscenity of any kind that is harmful to the interests or beliefs of specific but not limited to social, economic, religious, gender, or political groups will lead to the disqualification of the team.
- Performance must be suitable for the general audience and should not contain any offensive or inappropriate content.
- The decision of the judging panel will be final and binding.
Round 1: Prelims
- Prelims will be ONLINE.
- The Whole Act should be performed in prelims.
- The maximum time allotted for the performance is 10 minutes.
- You have to send the script of your Act and recording by 30 September 2023, 11:59 PM to the following email id as your entry in the prelims round: dramatics.rendezvous23.iitd@gmail.com
The subject line would be as per the format: MONOACT_COLLEGENAME.
Round 2: Finals
- The Participant has a time of (10 + 5) minutes from empty stage to empty stage, including technical time of 5 minutes and performance time of 10 minutes.
- Any props required for the act must be brought by the participant.
- Any kind of damage caused to the stage will result in a 30% penalty.
- No technical support will be provided.
- Use of flammable substances or liquids (including water) is strictly prohibited.
- In case of special liquid requirements with the context of the play absolutely necessary, then an exception may be made at the discretion of the organizing team. The participants should take prior permission from the organizing team.
- Use of any hazardous element/prop is strictly prohibited.
Judging Criteria
- The Judging Criteria will be as follows:
- Script and Direction - 25%
- Acting - 40%
- Lights and Music - 15%
- Creativity and Overall Impact - 20%
- 5% marks (of the total score) per minute will be deducted from the obtained score after the 10th minute.
- After 12 minutes, the participant will be asked to leave the stage along with a penalty of 15% marks.
