Like most other engineers, Aamir had high hopes for his future after completing his B.Tech from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). He submitted hundreds of applications when looking for a job, but none panned out. The wings of Aamir’s aspirations were clipped by financial adversity and hard luck, but he did not give up.
Aamir then decided to pursue an MBA degree from Deakin University in Australia. It was a big deal for his father to invest INR 5 lakhs for his education, but they remained hopeful. However, this was not the end of the struggle for him, he now had to face an unfamiliar world.
Bad Days Build Better Days
When Aamir landed in Australia everything felt new and strange. The fact that he wasn’t comfortable communicating in English added to his anxiety and stress levels. But since he did not want to be a financial burden on his father, he decided to look for a job. Finding a job was extremely difficult as most of them required prior experience.
Aamir finally landed a job as an airport cleaner, where he had to work from 6 AM to 6 PM, four days a week. But this ate into his study time, and he had to leave it. He then took up a job delivering newspapers from 2 AM to 7 AM, which helped him make ends meet while continuing his MBA.
The Turn Of Fate
After months of balancing his delivery job and studies, Aamir finally caught a break in his final year when he bagged an internship at Techie ICT, Geelong. Within 15 days of the internship, Aamir’s talent shone and he was promoted to the post of Operations Manager. He finally had a job that he was interested in, so he kept working with dedication.
Soon all of his hard work paid off, within months he was promoted to the General Manager position. At the age of 25, he was the youngest GM the company had ever had. In the duration, he also completed his MBA and continued to work for Techie ICT helping increase the company’s revenue by over 300 percent within a few months of being the GM!
