The various entrance examinations, including JEE and NEET 2020 will be held from today even after facing such massive opposition. Students, teachers, parents, activists and many Chief Ministers of states that are not ruled by the BJP have shown their widespread disdain to conduct the examinations in midst of a global pandemic, and threatening the lives of the students.
JEE Mains examination will be conducted from September 1st to September 6th, so that the qualifying students will get admitted into their choice of engineering courses in various NITs, IITs and the other CFTIs (Centrally Funded Technical Institutions). Likewise, for the medical aspirants, the NEET is scheduled to be held on September 13th. The dates of these examinations are fixed, after being postponed for two times in a row because of the Covid-19 situation.
Precautions and steps taken to ensure safety
Many precautions and steps have been taken to ensure the safety of the students and the invigilators. This includes increasing the number of examination centers so that fewer people are congregated at a certain place. Alternate seating arrangements will be reinforced and there will be very few candidates in a single room in order to avoid much contact. Added to this, there are provisions of a staggered entry and exit in order to ensure maximum safety. These steps have been duly taken by the NTA (National Testing Agency) to conduct the national level entrance examinations for JEE and NEET 2020.
The other important precautions include the sanitization of all seats before the beginning of each shift and after the last shift terminates. The keyboards used by the candidates as well as the work stations will further be disinfected and sanitized properly. The NTA has also put forth the news that hand sanitizers will be available at all the examination centers inside the examination hall as well as at the entrance of the centers and students will be allowed entry after they have sanitized their hands and put on a mask.
The authorities of all the examination centers have been given barcode readers to check the admit cards of the candidates, in order to avoid the manual checking. Students will be given a 3-ply mask at the entrance of the examination center and are expected to wear it throughout the course of their exam.
Transportation assured by certain states
Keeping in mind the travel hindrances faced by the candidates who live far away from their examination centers, Odisha, M.P. and Chattisgarh governments have guaranteed the candidates to provide transportation. A website called ‘EduRide’ has also been developed by IIT students in order to facilitate transportation for the students of JEE and NEET 2020.
Indian Railways, on the other hand, has permitted the candidates of JEE and NEET 2020 as well as their parents to travel to their respective centers by the suburban railways and Mumbai suburban railways. The NTA has released the number of registered candidates for JEE, which is around 8.58 lakh and 16 lakh for NEET 2020.
JEE Main 2020 – What do you need to carry with yourself?
