Harsh Nandan Prasad, a Jharkhand man battling cancer, won everyone’s heart with his determination and grit when he posted a picture of himself attending job interviews from the hospital bed while undergoing chemotherapy sessions simultaneously. Impressed with his skills and attitude, the CEO of a Maharashtra-based tech firm offered him a job at the first chance.

As Arsh Nandan shared this story on LinkedIn, along with a photo of himself attending interviews from the hospital bed, he wrote, “as the recruiters come to know that I'm fighting cancer, I see the change in their expressions. I don't need your sympathy. I'm here to prove myself.”

A Harsh Battle Against Cancer & The World

Every morning, Arsh Nandan sits before his laptop from his hospital bed and attends job interviews. He has been rejected by several recruiters who have expressed concern over his capability to work due to his ill health and chose not to hire him eventually.

“When you give your best in the interviews but are not selected for the mere fact that you are going through a rough patch in life certainly shows how generous these companies are”, Arsh Nandan said while talking about the levels of discrimination that he has experienced.

He revealed that he was rejected by several recruiters, the sole reason being his battle against cancer. His health struggles weren’t pulling him back and his impressive CV left no doubts about his experience and abilities. But the fact that he was suffering from cancer left recruiters in doubt about whether he will be able to perform or not.

Where There Is A Will, There Is A Way

After Arsh Nandan’s post went viral, Nilesh Satpute - the founder and CEO of a tech firm based in Maharashtra, commented on his post saluting his attitude and offering him a job immediately.

“You are a warrior. Please stop attending interviews during your treatment. I checked your credentials, they are very strong. You can join us whenever you want. There will be no interview.” Satpute wrote.

Arsh Nandan has completed his MBA in Marketing from Xavier Institute of Social Sciences (XISS) and has interned at top companies like Tata Group and Colgate Palmolive. Since graduating from XISS, he has been working full-time at Poonawala Fincorp.

According to Prasad’s LinkedIn profile, he started as a Management Trainee at Poonawal Fincorp, and within a span of one year, he first became an Area Sales Manager and then worked at TL collections.

A Powerful Message

Others at LinkedIn didn’t fail to lift Nandan’s spirits as both sympathy comments as well as job offers started pouring in for Arsh Nandan Prasad. We have collected some of the notable comments below.

“Hats Off to you Sir... You are a great warrior and inspiration to many like us... Where a company is not selecting you, it's just their loss because having a positive person like you in any office would just create an environment where other things would seem very easy and will also motivate others with the fact that No matter what, you are here to face and enjoy every phase of your life and that's what makes you go all the times. Kudos to your Inner StrengthArsh Nandan Prasad Sir. May god give you enough strength to recover soon”, a CA commented on the LinkedIn post.

Another inspired user said, “Keep fighting! Stay strong! You are fighting a difficult battle and are such an inspiration to those around you and following you.”

A Story That Resonates

The discrimination over disability and disease continues unabated in the job market, resulting in highly qualified candidates being rejected. It is a common feature of the recruitment process where disabled candidates are frequently made automatically ineligible.

Seeing Arsh Nandan share his story, others also took due advantage of the moment and opened up about similar experiences.

“I went through the same thing when I was going through my cancer treatment,” she said. “Everyone would become so weary and filled with doubt. I started doubting myself. But it’s only a matter of time. You are incredible for doing this. And so, so strong. There will be people who see you, your talent, and your capabilities” one LinkedIn user said.

Many users urged Arsh Nandan not to give up and added how he had inspired millions of netizens and people with health problems around the globe who struggle to find a job.
