Job description of Corporate Finance Team at Bain & Co.
Corporate Finance Team (CFT),
- Links the client’s financial strategy to their corporate strategy, transactions and capital markets approach to create more value for the client’s organization.
- Communicates a compelling equity story to investors and analysts, responds effectively to activist investors, and builds new IR capabilities.
- Helps in pinpointing the root causes of gaps between intrinsic versus market value and identifying the best ways to close them through a compelling equity story.
- Uses proprietary diagnostics to better understand what drives total shareholder return in the client’s industry and compare their performance against peers.
- Works with Bain teams across the globe with solutions to corporate finance and capital markets-related aspects with a wide array of highly customizable offerings and tailored analyses to address key CXO concerns and equip the C-Suite with the right tools to shape their agenda on long-term shareholder value creation.
- Conducts financial diagnostics for client companies, codifies Bain’s intellectual property, and contributes to new intellectual property. We work with case teams across geographies and industries; however, they focus almost exclusively on Corporate Finance related projects.
Job description of Corporate Finance (CF) Associates
Corporate Finance (CF) Associates,
- Play a team member role on BCN cases, at times leading simple cases independently and at times driving the analysis on more complicated cases with significant direction from a Project Leader/Manager/Senior Manager.
- May manage 1-3 Analysts and take responsibility for sharing appropriate information across workstreams. Associates provide feedback and coach analysts on task execution and role. The expectation is to eventually provide significant direction and support to resolve complex issues and effectively manage client and team meetings.
- Are responsible for executing and at times driving the team’s overall answer, final materials, client communication, work planning, and team management on capital markets/corporate finance-related projects.
- Are expected to produce high-quality, client-ready research and analysis, understand implications, and generate strong business insights.
- Should have the ability to think through the impact of any change in one financial metric across financial statements, and impact on valuation. Ability to make sense of financial data, such as reasons for high or low growth, margins, returns, multiples, leverage, and accompanying competitive dynamics.
- Communicate data, knowledge, and insight to the entire team. Generate and screen realistic solutions based on sound reality checks and recommend actionable solutions.
- Effectively structure communication of insights from their own workstream. Deliver clear and professional presentations to the team/team leaders/managers.
- Consistently seek and provide meaningful and actionable feedback in all interactions; recognize different skills and development needed in oneself and work towards it.
- Assist in Office Management roles (e.g. recruiting, marketing, training, etc.)

- Be a graduate/postgraduate with a specialization in finance with strong academic records.
- Have 12-48 months of relevant experience in investment banking, equity research, or consulting with corporate finance exposure.
- Have a strong understanding of financial statement analysis, ratio analysis, and underlying valuation principles, ability to connect financial performance to valuations with a flair for numbers, and fair knowledge of equity markets to generate compelling insights and equity stories with a focus on ‘so-what’.
- Have sound business logic, thought leadership, and the ability to structure approaches to answer complex business questions.
- Cross-link different business models and multiple industries key dynamics, using key drivers/KPIs behind the operational and financial performance
- Possess excellent analytical, communication, and team player skills; ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure.
- Have first-level team management responsibility involving allocating and reviewing work to a small team of analysts and conducting performance discussions, writing reviews for appraisal.
- Have strong skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
