Yet again a truly momentous moment of pride and adulation, a red letter day for Delhi University (DU) as it adds to its echelon of alumni luminaries - Vaibhav Taneja, a DU commerce graduate who has been appointed as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at America`s major automobile production Tesla Inc. Prior to this appointment, he was serving as the Chief Accounting Officer at the same production company.
Tesla Inc. an American multinational automotive and clean energy company headquartered in Austin, Texas is one of the world's most valuable companies and, as of 2023, it is the world's most valuable automaker. Vaibhav Taneja`s appointment comes at a time when Tesla is aiming to boost its sales and capture more market share.
Who Is Delhi University Alumnus Vaibhav Taneja, Tesla CFO
Delhi University is known for producing great alumni and continues to do so to this very day. It is one of the largest university systems in the world with over 400,000 students on its campuses and affiliated colleges. The university is ranked 11th by National Institutional Ranking Framework 2023 and 407 as per the QS world ranking of universities.
As Vaibhav Taneja takes over the role as the new CFO, or the "Master of Coin '' as the media calls it, a promising growth both for the new CFO and Tesla is highly anticipated.
With his appointment doing the rounds, we bring you here some of the stupendous achievements and benchmarks set by the new Tesla CFO:
- Vaibhav Taneja joined Tesla in 2017, after a year at subsidiary SolarCity, a solar energy company that Tesla acquired in 2016, where he originally served as vice president and later corporate controller.
- He also led the successful integration of both companies' accounting teams.
- He was also appointed as a director for Tesla's Indian arm, Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Limited, in January 2021.
- He has more than two decades of accounting experience, having worked with multinational companies in technology, finance, retail, and telecommunications.
- He worked closely with previous CFOs - Deepak Ahuja and Zachary Kirkhorn on Tesla's quarterly earnings, and US and international controllership.
- Vaibhav Taneja initially made an impression at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, where he joined in 1996.
- From the India office, Taneja relocated to the US, eventually spending nearly 17 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Late Sheila Dikshit
Sheila Dikshit was an Indian politician who was the Chief Minister of Delhi from 1998 to 2013. She was a member of the Indian National Congress and a representative of the New Delhi constituency in the Legislative Assembly of Delhi.
Meira Kumar
She is a lawyer and a former diplomat and also served as a Cabinet Minister in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of Manmohan Singh’s Congress-led Government. She served as the 15th Speaker of Lok Sabha from 2009 to 2014, being the first woman to hold the post.
Late Arun Jaitley
He was a Senior Advocate in SC and a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was also the President of Delhi University’s Student Union in 1974 and later became the Finance Minister, Minister of Corporate Affairs in the Cabinet of India.
Shashi Tharoor
Shashi Tharoor is an Indian politician, writer, and former international diplomat who has been serving as a Member of Parliament.
Kapil Sibal
Kapil Sibal is an Indian Politician and a well-known lawyer who has served many terms at the helm of several government ministries.
Subramanian Swamy
Subramanian Swamy served as an economics professor initially at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He is now a politician, economist, and statistician.
Late Khushwant Singh
Khushwant Singh was a notable Indian author, lawyer, diplomat, journalist, and politician. His most well-known novel, ‘Train to Pakistan’ in 1956, was also made into a film in 1998!
India is indeed indebted to Delhi University for producing alumni of excellence time and again. With Vaibhav Taneja as CFO of Tesla, India`s global presence is taken to another notch and indeed every citizen stands proud of it.
