DU makes major changes for admissions 2020

The registration process for the University of Delhi admissions began on June 20, with major changes for 2020. One of the most notable and necessary change has been the shift to an online admission process. DU admissions 2020 will have a number of new rules to keep social distancing - such as cancellation of ECA and Sports trials.

Changes in DU admissions 2020

No penalty for a switch in stream

Earlier, a penalty of 5 per cent marks was awarded to students who changed their stream to apply for courses offered by DU. This rule was based on the scoring trend of science and humanities students, where the former was believed to score higher than the latter. Since all studies are now interdisciplinary, the admissions committee has decided to scrap the rule.

According to the Dean of admissions, Shobha Bagai, most colleges have agreed to this rule.

One form for all colleges

As compared to the earlier registration process, students no longer have to limit their choices by choosing specific courses/colleges. All students who register will be eligible for all courses and all colleges, based on their merit. There will still be an option to fill in the top 5 colleges.

No ECA/sports trials

This year, admission under the ECA category will be granted only to NCC and NSS students. For sports, the admission will be based on an exam and awards received. For the music courses in DU, students will have to upload a video on YouTube, which will be accessed by a panel.

Verification of documents

As the process is being conducted online, the verification of documents will also be conducted online. As was the case last year, students have to upload their documents online and verification will be done. Education boards across India are to share online links to the mark sheets for the verification process. However, in the final stage of admission, the physical presence of the students for the same would be required.

Online open house via webinar

The open house programs which addressed various queries related to the registration process, best four, cut-offs, choosing college and course etc, will now be held online. The webinars are expected to start in the coming week, and later in August after the merit lists are announced.

The first cut-off is to be announced in July-end and the admission process is set to begin from August.

Further, two new PG courses - MSc Biophysics, and Masters in Journalism have been introduced by DU. The registration process for DU will be closed on July 4. The admission portal will open again after the announcement of results by CBSE and other national and state boards.
