How do competitions provide real-time solutions? Know from Aritro Datta, D2C Competitive Leaders 2021

Getting featured into the top 30 amongst Top 100 D2C Competitive Leaders 2021 was a dream come true. With competitions being an integral part of my journey, there could have been no better way to bring an end to my first year. Walking on this hard-rocked path did not make me lose my confidence, instead it motivated me to continue the legacy in the second year as well.

Days of infancy

A lot of activities awaits you when you enter the B-school, be it the club/committee inductions, placement sessions, classes, and so on. The best part is, these activities have enough potential to make it difficult to lay full efforts over competitions. But then it is synonymous to the game of chess, where we individuals are chessmen. It depends upon us who we want to be, and how far we need to go. I am fortunate that I was able to pick up the pace, balance the tasks, and provide enough time to the competitions I participated in.

Competitions kept me going!

My journey of participating in competitions was one filled with rigorous learning and improvement. When I look back at my first presentation, I feel I could have done much better. A year from today, I am sure I would say the same. My biggest learnings came from various suggestions and work of my peers/competitors. Once I was able to get the hang of it, things moved in the right direction. A clear understanding of the case, what it asks for, certain clues which it gives out in terms of the solution it demands, is the first step in understanding the essence of the case. This is followed by building the structure and boxes which need to be filled in the presentation. No matter how brilliant the solution/idea is, it is important to portray how one derived the solution and what impact it will create.

The Family Support

To have a place among the best minds of the country, was a proud moment for all my friends and my family. For some of them, it was particularly special as they had supported and helped me through various stages leading up to the day. It was truly a success for them as much as it was for me.

Words of Wisdom

Competitions help us in building a comprehensive, real-time feasible solution to a real-time case. It is one of the few opportunities to apply what we have learnt in the classrooms into an existing problem. For me personally, competitions have been a huge confidence booster, to be able to compete with the best of the best from top B-Schools across the country.
