How Himanshu's internship at Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited made him understand the crux of telecom industry?

Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited currently has a subscriber base of over 300 million. Being a student of Symbiosis Institute of Telecom Management, getting a chance to do an Internship at Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited was like a dream come true.

What is the selection process at Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited?

The company visited the campus to hire only a few students who fit the best in the telecom organization. The selection process consisted of the following three rounds:

  1. Shortlisting of candidates on the basis of CV
  2. Telephonic Interview
  3. Personal Interview with Jio Marketing Team

After sailing through all the three rounds, I was finally selected for the internship. My role at Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited was that of a Management Trainee. The projects given to me focused separately on B2B Business. However, this was a very dynamic role that gave me an opportunity to work in a wide range of areas. Various domains that I could play around in were market research, rolling out of projects in rural villages of Maharashtra, making brochures, taking feedback and assisting the sales team. Overall, the internship at Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited was a well-rounded experience.

What did I learn from my Internship?

This internship allowed me to explore my true potential. It gave me practical exposure and also helped me in launching digital campaigns. Moreover, I also got a chance to enhance my technology skills such as the use of Powerpoint, Excel, Google Forms, Poster Making Applications, Data Analysis and Visualization Tools like Tableau for performance measurement skills.

What is the work culture at Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited?

To attend my internship, I moved to Pune. I knew that this internship will teach me a lot and hence, shifting for the same seemed organic. My team was very supportive and the work environment was very warm and welcoming. For an occasion, our Senior Managers took us for dinner at a beautiful barbeque restaurant and hosted a party for all the interns. This provided all of us a great opportunity to bond with each other and gain insights from our seniors. This ice-breaking dinner session was informative, enjoyable and gave me memories for a lifetime.

Owing to the great work environment which Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited offered, I would definitely love to work there. The telecom industry is not the most glamorous and has a few takers. However, with the launch of 5G, I am sure that telecom will rise again. Telecom is one such industry, much like Oil, which will always flourish. Especially, owing to the fact that the telecom industry sees disrupting technology faster than any other industry.

What it is like to work in the Telecom Industry?

Working or Internship at Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited provides different jobs in several verticals such as App development, IOT, 5G, Networking, etc. This, in turn, helped me hone my other skills. All this will definitely help me in becoming a stronger professional and a better manager in the future.

What did I learn from my mentor during my internship?

During the course of my internship at Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, my mentor always told me two things -

  1. There is no goal that cannot be achieved. You can set high targets and achieve them over a period of time if the approach and the will to achieve success are high.
  2. Work every day like it's your first day in the organization. This way you will be enthusiastic, energetic and will always be innovative with the way you work.

To summarise, interning at Reliance would definitely be one of the best experiences of my life. The key takeaway from this experience was understanding that what makes you a great manager is not your education but the result you deliver to the company with the utmost ease. And the key to becoming a People’s Manager is to understand and emulate the values and ethics of the organization.
