What is the selection process for an internship at Aditya Birla Group?
Though my route for securing this coveted internship turned out to be different from others, a candidate has to go through the rigmarole of Aditya Birla Group’s selection process which typically includes:
- CV Shortlisting
- Grueling psychometric test
- Group Activities
- Group Discussion
- Personal Interview
Fortunately, I did not have to face all these stages as I had secured a Summers PPO via the Aditya Birla Scholarship.
What was my role during my internship at Aditya Birla Group?
I was staffed on a project with Aditya Birla Group’s Overseas Spinning Business (OSB) in Indonesia. The functional role offered to me was that of Strategy and it encompassed working in various verticals of the business. Various domains that I could play around were Sales and Marketing and Supply Chain Management. My internship at Aditya Birla Group allowed me to explore the domain of General Management from an entirely different perspective.
What did I learn during my internship?
Coming to the takeaways, besides the core learnings (industry and project specific), the most important value addition came in the form of enhancing my soft/people skills. I had the opportunity to interact with and learn directly from senior management. I worked with people at different levels in a huge and complex setup, understood their perspectives, and at the same time made them understand mine. In order to ensure that I never felt left out, I was always given space to put forward my opinion.
What is the work culture at Aditya Birla Group?
I moved to the captivating city of Jakarta to pursue my internship. The project along with the location assigned to me couldn't have been more appropriate. It was an exhilarating experience, the 2 months that I spent interacting with the local people, learning the local language and exploring the fascinating Java island. Establishing the base in that new city was never a problem since the company took very good care of us.
My memory of the first team outing goes back to the second week of April 2019. The entire team traveled to the two other textile manufacturing units of OSB in Karawang and Purwakarta for two days. Besides the inauguration of a new unit, there were a couple of important senior management meetings which I must mention were an enriching experience.
What did I learn from my mentor during my internship?
My mentor time-and-again emphasized the importance of building soft skills. I am bereft of words to thank Aditya Birla Group for not only a marvelous internship experience but also for believing in me and extending a PPO. Undoubtedly, the past two months were the best of my MBA life.
Given a chance, I would grab the opportunity to work with Aditya Birla Group in a blink of an eye. Aditya Birla Group offers a repertoire of opportunities and is an excellent firm to work within the domain of General Management.
In a nutshell, doing an internship at Aditya Birla Group was a fascinating experience. I was fortunate enough to see the two worlds of theory and practicality blend in front of my eyes. Added to this was the fact that I got a flavor of two separate roles in a single internship.
