IIM-A opens applications for winter school 2021 in collaboration with Right To Education Resource Centre
Right To Education Resource Centre in collaboration with IIM Ahmedabad has announced the 6th edition of its annual flagship event, Winter School 2021 program from January 2, 2021, to January 10, 2021.
What is Winter School 2021?
The aim of this winter school is to create a platform to understand and challenge dominant ideas regarding education and social segregation. It empowers the existing structure and also aims at eradicating oppressive ideas.
The idea is to create an open space for discussion on issues like - social work vs social change, the engendering of education, social policy and practice, participatory research and importance of community knowledge, etc.
The theme of Winter school 2021 is ‘Inequality in Education’. The motive behind it is to gain a clear insight about how inequality in education and livelihood affects people. It will also throw light on the impact of Covid-19 pandemic and how it has amplified the inequality gap.

Orientation
The participants will have a 9 days orientation program in a fully virtual manner. The purpose of this orientation is to familiarise students with a particular set of tools for understanding policy along with social equations surrounding them. IIM professors and other industry experts will take the online orientation.
Research
After the orientation program, participants will choose a policy and will be conducting practicum about an organization of their choice, in relation to the policy. The practicum ideally requires 20 days, but this year, taking advantage of the pandemic, participants can continue to conduct research and preparation, presenting their work upon conclusion.
In order to earn a certificate from IIM-A, the participants need to submit a report stating the details of their work to the RTERC.
The work of previous year participants include Night schools in Mumbai, Capacity building of School Management Committees (SMCs) in Delhi State Government Schools, issues faced by non-profit organizations, etc.
The program is open for all adult students - both working professionals and non-working candidates. Anyone who is interested in social development and policy can apply for the Winter school 2021 program.
Interested candidates can fill the form here. While filling the form, the applicant needs to accomplish two tasks. Their work will be judged on the basis of the quality of their submission and the dedication showcased by the individuals. The last date to apply for the Winter school 2021 program is 30th November.

“As part of a larger action research effort, the Winter School 2021 brings in participants from across India and is an important student initiative to understand public policy from the perspective of excluded and marginalized groups,” said Prof. Ankur Sarin, Public Systems Group and Faculty Advisor, RTERC at IIMA.
