IIT Indore takes the ancient route, launches new Science and Mathematics course
IIT Indore has launched a very extraordinary course that will educate the students in Mathematical and Scientific comprehension from the ancient knowledge contained in the Sanskrit texts. The course that was introduced is labeled as “Understanding Classical Scientific Texts of India in an Immersive Sanskrit Environment.” An official from IIT Indore said that the reason for the emphasis on the ancient knowledge in Sanskrit is to enlighten the current generation.
Programme aimed at quality improvement
This programme has over 750 candidates all over the world who are partaking in the online classes. The programme is of 62 hours and will be conducted from August 22, 2020, till October 2, 2020. The course “Understanding Classical Scientific Texts of India in an Immersive Sanskrit Environment” is an AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education)-sponsored programme that aims at quality improvement.
Introduction to ancient proficiency
The officiating director of IIT Indore, Professor Neelesh Kumar exclaimed that there is a rich corpus of mathematical and scientific knowledge hidden in the ancient knowledge contained in the Sanskrit texts. Through this course, Kumar said, the present generation will be introduced to this ancient proficiency, which is of great importance. Not only will the course introduce students to the rich heritage of India’s past, but it will also motivate them to research and innovate further in this field.
Two sections of the course
The official of IIT Indore said that the course “Understanding Classical Scientific Texts of India in an Immersive Sanskrit Environment” is bifurcated into two sections. The former section will educate the participants of the intricacies of the language of Sanskrit, so that they get a fair consciousness of the language. The later part, then, is crafted in a way to teach the participants classical Mathematics and Science in Sanskrit.
The official further added that a qualifying examination is also a part of this programme which will be conducted in order to assess and weigh up the participants who will be involved in the second section of this course, and the successful ones will be awarded a certificate as well.
