IIT Kharagpur designs a telemedicine software to facilitate remote consultation
With still no great respite from the raging coronavirus, IIT Kharagpur recently launched a telemedicine software that is designed to facilitate critical healthcare support to patients at their doorsteps. Carefully crafted by the researchers at IIT Kharagpur’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the system will remotely consult a physician and take the necessary steps. The institute’s spokesperson said that the system iMediX is accessible via any mobile device and standard operating browser.
Professor V.K.Tiwari, the Director of IIT Kharagpur remarked that they had announced about eight R&D projects in order to provide Covid-19 healthcare services of which the telemedicine project was most crucial, given its effectiveness in our community. He added that although social distancing is highly promoted, it's the need of the hour to introduce digital platforms like iMediX to meet the healthcare needs of our community in large.
How to enrol?
Patients who wish to enrol in the iMediX system and get an account for themselves can sign up by providing his/her mobile number or e-mail ID. The next step is when the patient makes a request for a personal consultation by choosing a specific department of the hospital, describing his/her important complaints and uploading the necessary scanned medical records. By following these steps, the hostel administration will then process the complaint and the patient’s request and assign a doctor for further treatment.
Treatment at your doorstep
After the doctor has logged in into the system, he/she then set an appointment date and the prescribed time for the patient. The iMediX system then transmutes this information to the patient on his registered mobile number or email ID. When the appointed date arrives, the doctor consults the patient through video conferencing and gives his/her token of advice by writing a prescription, thereby sending it to the registered mail of the patient.
