Check Out These 6 ISRO Programs Exclusively For Engineers!

Its activities are spread across various centres and units, including Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), and National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), to name a few. 

Engineers can be a part of these centers through various programs offered throughout the year. Here are some exclusive engineering programs offered by institutes and centers under the Department of Space, Government of India.

1. M.Tech Course In Remote Sensing & GIS  At Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS)

Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) offers M.Tech. course in 'Remote Sensing & GIS' in collaboration with the Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. The course is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The aim of the M.Tech. (RS&GIS) course is to provide an understanding of:

  • Remote sensing, satellite image analysis.
  • Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technologies
  • Studying applications of these technologies in natural resources survey and monitoring soils, forestry, water resources, atmospheric studies, disaster management, etc.

The course is four semesters long in which the first two semesters are devoted to exhaustive course work, and the other two semesters include a research project. Here for more details about this course.

2. M.Tech Course At Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST)

Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram, offers high-quality education in space science and technology to meet the demands of the Indian space programs. 

IIST is the first of its kind in the country and was ranked in the top 43 Engineering in the NIRF 2023 rankings. The Institute provides ample opportunities for young bright minds to get actively involved in ISRO's space-related projects. 3. Academic Project At National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC)

NRSC Hyderabad offers opportunity to the students to carry out academic projects as part of fulfillment of their PG and UG courses. Final year students of M.Tech/M.E/B.Tech/B.E/M.Sc./ MCA courses are eligible for this project. The duration of the project work is 3-12 months.

4. Academic Project At Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC)

VSSC offers a limited number of opportunities for Academic Project Work to final year students of M.Tech/M.E/B.Tech/B.E/M.Sc./ MCA courses. The VSSC internship is rolled out for two block periods every year- May-July and October-December. The aspirants who missed out on the May-July block can still apply for the upcoming October-December block.

5. Academic Project At U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC)

URSC Bengaluru, a leading Organization of ISRO, provides opportunity for students to carry out their project work as part of their academic curriculum. Both Undergraduate (BE/B.Tech) and post-graduate (ME/M.Tech/M.Sc/MCA) students are eligible to carry out their project work.

The maximum duration allowed is 10-12 months for M.E/M.Tech students and 4 months for BE/B.Tech students. Students will be allotted internship work at URSC based on the availability of projects. The allotment of internships is on a first-come-first-serve basis as the availability of the number of slots per year is limited. Visit their official website for more details. 

6. Academic Project At National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL)

NARL Tirupati invites students pursuing B.Tech/M.Tech or equivalent courses, preferably in Atmospheric Science / Physics / Electronics / Computers from the Government/AICTE/University recognized institutes, to carry out their academic projects. The minimum period of project must be more than 3 months.
