Saint-Gobain Signs MoU With IIITDM Kancheepuram, Commits INR 2.29 Crore To Support Girls' Technical Education

To assist girl students from low-income families, to pursue technical degree courses, Saint-Gobain India, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design & Manufacture (IIITDM, Kancheepuram), has announced a scholarship opportunity. Saint-Gobain India will be donating INR 2.29 crore to support the education of 40 unprivileged female students over a period of 8 years.

Scholarship will help retain more girls in technical courses

Financial constraint is often the reason for girls from economically weaker sections to drop out of engineering colleges or not go for technical degree courses at all! Hence, this scholarship would be a helping hand for such girls. 

P Padmakumar, Executive Director-Human Resources and Head-CSR Saint-Gobain India commented on this initiative, 

As a part of the scholarship and for the benefit of the students, there is also an element, to pursue an internship, in any of the Saint-Gobain businesses in India.

According to IIITDM officials, the Government of India has taken necessary steps in order to ensure the proper enrollment of female students at all levels of education, significantly higher education, also highlighting the increased numbers of overall enrollment of girl students in higher secondary education level, as per the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE). In their official statement, IIITDM Kancheepuram said,

In line with Saint-Gobain India’s Gender Diversity Agenda, this MoU is an initiative under its industry-academia partnership to attract and retain more girl students into manufacturing from institutions of national importance.
