Ratan Tata is widely known and hailed for his empathetic nature and for treating his employees at par with his family. There have been several instances where he has gone out of the way to indulge into philanthropic activities to help out the people who work for him and his company Tata Steel. Amid the COVID-19 crisis, they have again stepped up to help the society fight this pandemic, firstly by providing oxygen cylinders and now Tata Steel has announced social security schemes for the family members of employees affected by coronavirus. The company has announced the decision of continuing to pay monthly salary to the family of all employees who die due to COVID-19 till the retirement age of 60.
A statement issued by the Jamshedpur-based steel manufacturer on May 23, 2021 announced that the monthly pay of such employees would be the same as the last salary which the person drew before his demise.
Apart from this, the company has also promised to provide medical benefits and residential facilities. "Tata Steel's best-in-class social security schemes will help ensure an honourable standard of living for their families, whereby the family will get the last drawn salary till 60 years of age of the deceased employee/nominee along with medical benefits and housing facilities," Tata Steel had stated.
TATA becomes a Shield
In addition, if any of its frontline employees gets infected while on duty and meets with an unfortunate death due to COVID-19, the company would bear "all the expenses of their children's education till graduation in India", the statement added.
"The company has always been a shield of steel, supporting its stakeholders at all times. This time is no different. Tata Steel family stands stoically with all its people, committed to their security and well-being," it further added.
"Tata Steel has taken the path of #AgilityWithCare by extending social security schemes to the family members of the employees affected by #COVID19. While we do our bit, we urge everyone to help others around them in any capacity possible to get through these tough times," the Jamshedpur-based company said on Twitter while announcing the schemes.
Tata steel has time and again set the bars high for all the corporates to take a stand and serve society selflessly. It was also among the several steel manufacturers that responded to Centre's call for ramping up oxygen production amid the coronavirus pandemic without delay.
