These IITians applied their classroom knowledge to become second runner-up of AB InBev Maverick 2.0 Hack-a-thon
It was a surreal feeling and we were left speechless! Here is our story of becoming the First Runner-up of AB InBev Maverick 2.0 Hack-a-thon.
The day we found out that one of the problem statements was exactly along the lines of our course, Analytics in Transport and Telecom - IME639A, we were extremely happy because we realized that our classroom knowledge was actually the solution to some real-world problem. And our prior knowledge helped us a lot. We always wanted to solve real-life problems encountered in big companies like AB InBev and being enthusiastic about data science, this hackathon appeared to be the best opportunity.
AB InBev Maverick 2.0 Hack-a-thon tested our mettle
We have just started to participate in such competitions, so we had a negligible experience of working in a team for a competition while on campus. The biggest challenge was to explain an algorithm/idea which Yash had already thought to the other two teammates. But as we got used to discussing on online meeting platforms, this was no more an issue. Major credit goes to the understanding level of our team members, it was our cooperative nature that allowed us to make the decisions, so we did not have any conflicts during our AB InBev Maverick 2.0 Hack-a-thon journey!
However, even if we had some knowledge of operations research, the problem of stock balancing was vast and we needed around 10-15 days to come up with a complete solution. The prototype submission round's deadline was during our end-semester exams and it was really difficult to manage both these things at the same time.
As per our experience, we would like to convey a short message to the bright and young minds out there - Never lose hope!
