Standing at her tea stall near Women’s College in Patna, the banner of 24 years old Priyanka Gupta’s ‘startup’ reads,Log kya sochenge agar ye bhi hum hi sochenge, to fir log kya sochenge. This line clearly reflects her grit and creativity as she sets ahead to fight unemployment.

A step towards becoming ‘atma nirbhar’

Priyanka Gupta, a graduate in Economics from Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth in Varanasi has been unemployed since 2019. After failing to get a job, Priyanka who belongs to Purnia district of Bihar finally decided to open her own tea stall. In an interview to ANI, she said, “After my graduation, I was unable to get a job for 2 years. So, I took inspiration from Prafull Billore and decided to open a tea stall. There are many chaiwallas, so why can't there be chai wali?

Apart from the normal chai, her tea shop offers unique tea flavors, such as paan tea and chocolate tea, attracting a good number of people to her stall everyday.

Soch mat, chalu kar de bas

Opening a tea stall around a busy place wasn’t a smooth ride for Priyanka. She needed an initial investment which was hard to get. After running from pillar to post, she finally managed to get a loan of INR 30,000 from a friend.

Going by the philosophy, ‘soch mat, chalu kar de bas ’ which is also mentioned on her tea stall’s banner, Priyanka is getting huge support and applause on social media after ANI tweeted her story. The tweet also got the famous MBA Chaiwala, Prafull Billore to comment.

Youth versus Unemployment

The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy's latest data has revealed that the overall unemployment rate in India was about 8.10% in February 2022 which fell down to 7.6% in March 2022. However, the percentage is still high for a country like India forcing thousands of qualified people to remain outside the labor force. Hence, news of some youth taking up a chore that is not at par with their qualification, keep showing up from time to time. Having said that, it is the determination and resilience of such individuals that is worthy of appreciation.
