Preparation strategy for IIFT Essay Writing, GD, and PI

Shortlisted candidates can use the following methods to prepare for the further selection process of IIFT:

Essay Writing

In this round, the candidates are given a topic on which they are expected to write a short essay (300 words). They are given a total time of 20 minutes for the same with 5 minutes for thinking on that topic and 15 minutes to write their ideas/views on it. The topics range from a variety of issues related to economics and sociology. Examples of topics that have been given previously are as follows:

  1. Indian Banking System should be more inclusive
  2. Startups in India
  3. Corporate Financial Transparency
  4. Introduction of GST in India
  5. Sustainable Development in India

Group Discussion

This round is usually 30 minutes. In this round, a group of students (8-10) are given a topic to discuss. When the topic is revealed, students are given some time to think about it and then each participant has to speak on it for 1 minute. When every participant has spoken, the floor is thrown open for everybody to discuss among themselves.

Personal Interview

In this round, the candidates are questioned mostly based on their CV (resume). Apart from that general questions related to MBA, IIFT, etc are asked. The candidate needs to remain calm and communicate with the interviewer clearly regarding whatever question is asked. The candidate is expected to know well about IIFT and how their own personal goals align with the opportunities IIFT can provide them.

The candidates (with or without a job) who couldn’t make it to the shortlisted list this time can prepare for it again. But a job experience will definitely be a plus point and will increase their chances of selection for next year.
