Section-wise tips to prepare for TISSNET 2021
If you have already appeared for CAT, or if you are preparing for other exams in the pipeline like IIFT or MAT, you must know the basic topics backward and forwards. However, the difficulty level of TISSNET is easy to moderate as compared to CAT.
First things first, it is very important to balance your preparation once you know the pattern and syllabus of any exam. TISSNET consist of 3 sections with different time frames:
General Knowledge
This section holds the highest weightage in the TISSNET exam. The most common advice you can hear about preparing for General Knowledge is to track and jot down the latest trends and news to score high in this section. Yes, this will act as the groundwork but the catch here is the revision of the notes.
Pro Tip: Do NOT spend hours learning the notes by heart. Instead, give a reading to entire notes with full concentration just once daily. Because the number of times it will flash across your mind, the higher the probability of retaining the information.
Key points to remember:
- Give equal attention to static knowledge and current affairs.
- For static questions, consult the previous years’ question papers. It has been observed that some static questions get repeated, and who would not want to get some extra brownie points?
- Pay extra attention to news related to social and cultural issues.
- One can consult books like Manorama Year Book and Competition Success Review or can watch good GK videos on YouTube!

Math and LR
There is no definite ratio between the two sections in TISSNET. Since the number of questions on Math and LR can vary, you need to be on your toes for either section. The paper usually throws questions from an easy to moderate level. So, it would not require a lot of effort if you have already taken other MBA entrance exams like CAT and XAT.
Key points to remember:
- The commonly asked questions in LR are from blood relations, coding-decoding, input-output, circular and linear arrangements.
- Sometimes the topics covered in one year in LR are not repeated the following year. However, do not blindly follow this trend and prepare every topic for TISSNET 2021.
- In the case of Math, the majority of questions are formula-based.
- Do not miss any topics from Arithmetic (Profit and loss, Mixture Averages, Proportions, TWS, etc.). For the Number system, make sure to do a thorough practice of the HCF, LCM, and Remainder theorem.
- In the case of Geometry, at least revise properties and mug up mensuration formulae. Practice probability, P&C, and trigonometry in Modern mathematics.
