The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has recommended setting up a minimum and maximum limit on fees for engineering courses. The suggestion was accepted by the education ministry recently.

In the previous year, the AICTE developed a revised fee schedule for technical courses that included maximum and minimum caps on fees. The AICTE committee was under the chairmanship of Justice Srikrishna, a former Supreme Court judge who reviewed the existing guidelines.

Although a maximum cap had been fixed earlier, this is the first time a minimum level has been implemented. After finalizing, the council has instructed all state and union territories to implement the new guideline.

Rajive Kumar, Member Secretary of the AICTE, has confirmed the changes and reported, The panel report was accepted by the ministry earlier this week and we have already written to state and union territories to start implementing the fee structure.”

It is now up to the states to review the suggestions and decide a fee structure accordingly since each state also has its own fee review committee, he added.
