Applications open for paid internship opportunity by Project 39A, NLU Delhi

Project 39A, National Law University, Delhi, inspired by Article 39A of the Constitution of India is opening applications for paid internship opportunities on a rolling basis from March 2021 to March 2022. The program aims to provide the interns the exposure to the nuances and the working of the criminal justice system in India. It is a step to provide equal opportunity to those facing social and economic barriers.

Responsibilities of the paid internship at Project 39A

Project 39A undertakes research around forensic science with a particular focus on DNA forensic, legal aid in the criminal justice system, mental health and criminal justice, torture, and administration of the death penalty. It is also concerned with litigation to ensure competent pro bono legal representation for prisoners sentenced to the death penalty. The Paid internship opportunity will require interns to work closely with members of Project 39A and assist them in these matters. 

The paid internship opportunity will continue for a minimum of 4 months to a maximum of 12 months. The location of the internship will be the offices in the NLU Delhi campus located in sector 14, Dwarka, New Delhi, 100078.

Eligibility criteria

The applications will be open for students of any stream or discipline enrolled in a recognized undergraduate or a postgraduate program in any recognized University in the world. But preference would be given to a student from these programs:

• law,
• humanities,
• social sciences,
• management or
• media and communications

The applications by part-time interns will be considered, but the preference would be given to full-time interns while selection.

Stipend and the application process

This is a paid internship opportunity. The stiped will depend on the duration of the internship. 

• For full-time interns, a stipend of INR 10,000 will be provided for every four weeks of internship. 
• For part-time interns, a stipend of INR 5,000 will be provided for every four weeks of internship.
