Crore+ packages for Computer Science students! Why are CS Graduates a Favourite Choice of Companies?

With the completion of the first round of IIT placements, computer science engineering students have once again landed the highest-paying positions. IIT BHU itself recorded the highest annual package of INR 2.15 crore, with the average CTC of the Computer Science department being 44 lakhs. The tendency has continued for a long time, but the exact cause of this trend has been a question for many.

What do the numbers suggest?

As per the recent trends of IIT Placement 2021, the maximum highest-paying offers were bagged by Computer Science students.

• At IIT Ropar, 92 percent of the Computer Science students at IIT Ropar got placed in the first round of placement season.
• At IIT Delhi, more than 60 students bagged the hefty package of 1 crore.
• At IIT Kanpur, the highest package stood at 1.2 crore.
• At IIT Patna, the highest annual package was 61.3 lakhs.

According to Mr. Kripa Shankar Singh, Training and Placement Officer, IIT Patna, “Not only 96 percent of the job offers were bagged in by the students of the computer science department but also sought the highest package of the institution”.

These recent placement trends released by IITs are a testimony to the fact that companies are offering high annual CSE graduates.

CS ke liye kuch bhi karega!

Computer Science Engineering, the dream branch of thousands of students, is one of those branches that witness the maximum competition when it comes to admission across any IIT in India. The growth in the sector is one of the reasons that students initially opt for the branch. But the hindsight reason for the competition is the hefty packages that the companies are offering to these graduates.

What makes Computer Science a lucrative stream?

With the advent of technology, and the influx of many disruptive technologies like Big Data, Blockchain, Cloud engineering. 3D Printing, Social media, Artificial Intelligence, etc there has been a consistent hike in the number of roles offered in optimizing the emerging technologies.

Conglomerates like Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Tesla, Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Uber, Oracle, Honeywell and many more require engineers who can work on the modern and evolving technologies. 

With the growth of e-commerce, companies like Flipkart, Amazon, and Jio use websites and apps for their functioning. The millions of lines of codes that are being used for the development of these platforms require the mind of an individual who can perform the coding.

Why do companies choose IITs?

All the organizations want to get their hands on the best of the talents that can be found in India. When it comes to talent, where to go better than the IITs, the mecca of computer science engineering if one is in India.

The rigorous curriculum of IITs helps the students to enhance their analytical, problem-solving and coding skills. Experienced professors, Peer-learning and many more opportunities like national coding competitions and hackathons in which many students very often participate prove to be the perfect mix that any company is looking for.

Are these packages really this hefty?

The answer to this question can be both yes and no. Many of the packages that we hear of are being offered where the student will work in any overseas country. The natural conversion of the currency from dollars, pounds, euros, etc to Indian rupees definitely scales up the package.

Many of the students do work from Indian offices. So, the packages of these students provide an actual figure of how much the companies are offering.

Way Forward

If the growth of the IT sector is to be taken into account and with no dearth of talent among the Indian diaspora, it can be more than fairly concluded that, we will get to many many more skyrocketing packages being offered to students.
