After IIT Abu Dhabi, Haryana To Get 2 IIT Delhi Campuses

Haryana will soon have two prestigious IIT campuses in two of its districts namely, Jhajjar & Sonipat. The campuses will be opened by the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT D). Prof. Rangan Banerjee, director of IIT Delhi made this announcement in a press conference at IIT Delhi. According to the director, the work for the new campuses is in progress and is expected to be completed by the end of November 2023.
The Sonipat campus is to be constructed under the Institute of Eminence (IoE)-funded SATHI building. The budget sanctioned for these campus projects is INR 59.73 crore.
The country will have a first-of-its-kind IIT campus for Patient-Specific Drug Development for Cancer Treatment with the launching of the Jhajjar campus.
IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi To Start By 2024
In July 2023, in order to establish the IIT Delhi campus in Abu Dhabi, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked with Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) as a part of the ‘IITs go Global’ campaign. With this signing of the MoU, it became the second international IIT campus after IIT Madras Zanzibar.
During the press conference, the director announced that the IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi campus will start some of its formal programs by 2024. “We still need approvals, both internally and externally. We have different mechanisms to do admissions in both India and UAE. We are trying to have a blend of both. Our aim is to have diversified classrooms”, he said during the press conference.
According to the institute's official press release, IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi`s temporary campus is already in place, and work for customization of the existing facilities to IIT Delhi’s requirements is in progress.
Recent News That Put IITs In The Limelight
IIT Madras was the first to catch the attention of the citizens when it inked a MoU with Tanzania to set up the first ever IIT international campus- IIT Madras Zanzibar campus. Classes for the first cycle of the IIT Zanzibar offshore Campus will commence in October, 2023.
This was followed by IIT Delhi which became the second to open an international campus- IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi campus.
Then comes IIT Kharagpur deciding to launch an MBBS degree course in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
