This IIM-A Grad Cleared CAT With The Help Of Videos From YouTube; Today His Story Inspires Many

Not everyone who works hard achieves success, but all who have achieved success have worked hard in their life. Men and women alike, who have made their names in the golden sections of history as important and successful figures are known not only for their names but for the sheer will and commitment they have devoted to their respective fields of work.

Shubham Shankar Dubey had a similar story of hardship and poverty, but in spite of that, he managed to clear CAT with self-study using just YouTube. After that, he was selected for admission into IIM Ahmedabad and graduated successfully with an MBA in 2022.

Much like the former president and cherished scientist Late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Shubham’s road to success was full of hurdles. Dr. Kalam had recounted how in his childhood there was no electricity in his village and he used to study under the dim street lights for long hours.

Similarly, Shubham Shankar Dubey also used the wifi at Vishwanath ghat in Varanasi and freely available resources on YouTube to ace CAT and find a way to IIM Ahmedabad, one of the best management institutes in the country. 

His story is an inspiration for many today.

A Place Of Worship, A Shelter For Aspirations

Dubey took to LinkedIn to share the story of his inspiring journey and his struggle as an MBA Aspirant at IIM Ahmedabad. He told how he relied solely on YouTube to prepare for CAT- one of the most competitive exams in the nation.  

Dubey has been a student of B.Sc Agriculture at Benaras Hindu University (BHU) and had been living at the BHU hostel while preparing for CAT. In his LinkedIn post where he shared his journey, Shubham said that the faced tremendous difficulty due to the weak wifi at the BHU hostel.   

In order to make sure that there was no disruption in his studies, Dubey would go and sit at Shree Vishwanath Temple where he received better signal on mobile data. Such was his determination to make a strong effort at CAT preparation that he compensated for every moment he lost due to weak wifi.    

As Prof. Satish Deodhar of IIM Ahmedabad handed over the degree to Shubham, his entire CAT preparation journey flashed before his eyes.

My Parents, My strength 

According to Dubey, the constant faith that his parents had on him had a huge role to play in his success. Without their constant support and encouragement in his journey, Shubham wouldn’t have been able to become what he is now.   

He has also recounted how his mother, who is not so educated, always stood by Dubey and supported his ambition. When Dubey used to study when he was children, his mother would constantly sit beside him and make sure that he was focused.   

His father, on the other hand, was the breadwinner of the family and ensured that Shubham was always in a good shape to focus on his studies. He has also received guidance and important tips from his father that have stayed will stay with him for the rest of his life.  

“My parents believed in me throughout the journey and I am proud of my parents. My mother has not studied much but whatever I have done was possible only because my mother used to sit with me while I prepared. My father is the backbone of my family and has always guided me throughout my life.” Dubey said.

“My parents believed in me throughout the journey and I am proud of my parents. I dedicate this degree and all my achievements to my late grandfather Shri Raj Narain Dubey. I know that he must be proud of me.” he added.

The Stepping Stones Of Success  

On 13 April 2022 Dubey successfully completed his MBA degree from IIM Ahmedabad. While still being a student at IIM Ahmedabad, Shubham has interned with TCI group and Invest India. He has also been a member of the Food & Agribusiness Club at IIM Ahmedabad.

“I completed Masters in Business Administration from IIM Ahmedabad and graduated on 13th April 2022. The journey at IIM Ahmedabad was a surreal one. When Prof. Satish Deodhar handed over the degree to me, the journey of CAT preparation flashed in front of me.”
