On May 5th, the Indian Insititute of Management (IIM) Shillong and the National Insititute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will facilitate a common platform for students to work together. This will improve the collaboration between the two institutes on academic programs and student exchange schemes.

IIM Shillong is one of the 20 premier institutes for business and management within the country and NIFT is the leading institute of fashion education run under the Ministry of Textiles.

The MoU will initially be in effect for a period of three years and was signed by Professor DP Goyal and Dr. Arindam Das, directors of IIM Shillong and NIFT respectively.
“The key areas of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and joint activity cover student exchange programmes, joint field trips, faculty training, mentorship, Ph.D. supervision, joint research and publications, collaboration with foreign experts, and participation in workshops, seminars, and conferences,” said Prof. D P Goyal, Director of IIM Shillong.
According to Professor Goyal, it will aid in developing professional growth within both institutes at a higher standard and adheres to the goal of cross-disciplinary learning as mentioned in the National Education Police 2020.

Dr. Arindam Das has remarked this occasion to be historic as it opens up a whole new vista of opportunities for both institutes. In this era of exponential development, opportunities such as these are the stairs that can elevate the overall quality of education within our country and subsequently provide students with better opportunities.
