This scheme will enable students from foreign countries to get admission in prestigious institutions such as the National Institute of Technology (NIT), National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT), the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), School of Planning and Architecture and other government-funded technical institutions.
Considered to be among the best educational institutions for engineering in the world, students abroad will now be able to achieve their dream of joining these prestigious institutions. However, note that the DASA system will not be applicable in IITs.
15 percent of the total seats in these institutions will be reserved for NRIs and foreign students.
A Positive Step By The Government
The Union Ministry of Education will warmly welcome international universities that can offer a variety of courses to students in cooperation with India's higher educational institutions.
Indian Ambassadors in 63 countries around the world have been approached to take this initiative forward. Japan, the Netherlands, Russia, South Korea, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Spain, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Germany, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Argentina, Brazil, Greece, Cyprus, Iceland, and Turkey are among those countries.
According to the Ministry, the campaign would not only assist Indian higher education institutions in establishing alliances with overseas institutions but will also encourage foreign universities to send students to Indian academic institutions.
Many universities have been designated as Institutes of Eminence under the Union government's Institution of Eminence scheme. These Institutes of Eminence have gained the attention of many foreign students over the years.
The Government of India’s initiative towards the IIT-JEE is a silver lining for students who reside in foreign countries, as well as NRI students, and have been unable to appear for the IIT-JEE due to its limitation to a few countries, which has now been rectified by the government.
