IIFT Grabs 2nd Runner-up Title For Infosys Ingenious 2022

Infosys Ingenious is the annual B-School competition conducted by Infosys in India. Conceptualized in 2008, the competition is aimed at discovering the most innovative management students in the country who are bound to become the leaders of tomorrow. Ingenious 2022 marked the 14th edition of this competition which was a magnanimous success. With 46,06,599 impressions, and 12,215 registrations the road to victory was definitely tough. But Team SwIIFT from IIFT Delhi managed to cross the hurdles and win the 2nd runner-up title of the national competition. Let’s have a look at their journey through this competition.

Infosys Ingenious 2022 launched in August this year and as soon as we got the news we jumped on the registration bandwagon. Full-time second-year MBA/ executive courses students from select institutions were eligible for the competition. Being from IIFT Delhi, which is one of the premier B-Schools in the nation, we could take part in this annual case study competition. So the first thing we did was start forming a team. 

Our team, Team SwIIFT was formed on the consideration that the members must have collective expertise in finance, marketing, and strategy domains. And above all, they must have the zeal to win and work hard for it. This is what brought us- Megha Vasu, Subham Sinha, Aditya Suman, and Suravi Agarwal, together for this competition. And the fact that we managed to win the 2nd runner-up title makes us feel beyond the world.

Competition Structure

The challenge consisted of the following rounds:

• Round 1: Infy PM - A Business Simulation
• Round 2: Bizwiz - Case Submission Round
• Round 3: Clash of the Champions - The Grand Finale

A total of 14 teams made it to the finale, all of which were equally good; each one having its own USP. The judgment quality was pretty transparent, fair, and to the point. We had a lot of fun taking part in the challenge. All of our team members knew each other's strengths and weaknesses and were hence flexible in their approach toward other. Mutual trust and faith were the binding elements for our team, and hence we hardly had any conflicts while working together.

Infosys Ingenious 2022: Our Strategy

Our winning strategy for this competition can be summarised as follows:

1. The first step was to identify the fundamental cause of the problem and then work on providing practical, implementable, and long-term solutions. 
2. Our approach sprouted from the end goal which was to build a coherent structure, starting by doing a detailed root cause analysis of the problem statement, and proposing the potential solution to the problem. 
3. Our major focus was on doing a decent amount of research so that no stone was left unturned.
4. We spent two days on root cause analysis, six days on strategy and implementation of the solution, and two days on financials and marketing strategy.

Key Learnings

This competition was not just about winning a title, but also about learning and growing at the same time. Here are a few key learnings we gathered on this journey:

1. It's really important to understand the case properly. We went through the case again and again and every time we found some key details which we missed earlier.
2. We must plan beforehand and have a proper structure in place at the beginning so that we don't waste time on irrelevant or less important stuff during the competition when we are mostly on a time crunch. 
3. It is important to have a structural flow in your presentation to keep the jury members engaged. 
4. In the absence of great ideas, don’t overlook the low-hanging fruit. They just might be the salvation you were looking for.
5. On the big day, be self-assured when presenting and delivering in front of a huge audience.

Conclusion

The day before the grand finale, we had a campus drive where we learned about Infosys, its culture, and the innovations implemented on the campus. We also had a plantation drive that was particularly memorable. Every member of the final teams was given a sapling to plant, to commemorate our time on campus. It was a very meaningful and touching experience. The whole Infosys Ingenious 2022 journey was filled with heartwarming and enlightening moments, that we will never forget.
