After multiple postponements and reschedulings, JEE Mains and JEE Advanced 2020 are finally just a heartbeat away. With the National Testing Agency (NTA) remaining firm on its decision to conduct JEE Main from 1 to 6 September, the conducting body of JEE Advanced 2020, IIT Delhi has now released the official brochure stating the postponement of the Advanced exam from August 23, 2020, to September 27, 2020.

The good news for the aspiring candidates is that certain changes have been introduced in various particulars of the exam, in the wake of the Corona outbreak, thus easing some pressure on them. Some of the major changes are as follows:

  • The candidates are now eligible to take admission in IITs irrespective of percentage in class 12th.
  • Selecting eight cities is mandatory as the choice of examination centers.
  • Candidates will have more options available to select cities, since the number of cities has been raised to 212 from 171, previously.
  • As per the decision by JAB, the number of candidates to be eligible for JEE Advanced 2020 has gone up to 2,50,000.
  • For the first time this year, the JEE Advanced exam will also be conducted in the United States (San Fransico). 

Important dates and schedule of JEE Advanced 2020

The process of JEE Advanced will commence as soon as the results of JEE Main gets announced on September 11, 2020 (tentative date). The application form for JEE Advanced 2020 will be available from September 11 to September 16. However, the candidates will be allowed to pay their fees by September 17. Some important dates for the aspiring candidates are as follows:

The examination will consist of two compulsory papers of three hours each. It is strictly mentioned in the brochure that the schedule will remain the same even if September 27, 2020, is declared a public holiday. 

NOTE: For all the PwD candidates, one-hour compensatory time will be given during the end. Thus, making it 13:00 IST for Paper 1 and 18:30 IST for Paper 2. 

Eligibility criteria for Indian nationals

To register and appear in JEE Advanced 2020, the candidates must fulfill all the following 5 criteria. The students,

  • Must have a rank in the top 2,50,000 in B.E./B.Tech. paper of JEE Main 2020.
  • Should have been born on or after October 1, 1995 (GN) and on or after October 1, 1990 (SC, ST and PwD).
  • Can appear for a maximum of 2 attempts of JEE Advanced in two consecutive years.
  • Should have given Class XII or equivalent exam for the first time in either 2019 or 2020 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
  • Should not be admitted to IIT earlier, irrespective of whether or not he/she continued in the program.

Here is the category-wise distribution of the top 2,50,000 candidates. However, the total number of candidates can slightly be on a higher note due to tied ranks/scores.

B. Arch. program: Cracking Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT)

Candidates who are desirous to join the B. Arch. program can pursue graduation from IIT (BHU) Varanasi, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Roorkee. Apart from qualifying the JEE Advanced 2020, the students will have to pass the AAT. 

Key highlights and the schedule of AAT 2020:

  • The test will consist of one paper and will be available only in the English language.
  • The duration of the exam will be three hours.
  • No separate admit card will be issued for AAT 2020.
  • The seats will be allotted based on the category-wise All India Rank in the JEE Advanced 2020
