From Working With Sonu Nigam, Jacqueline, and Boman Irani To Becoming ‘Intern Of The Week’ - Summer Internship Experience At Jio Creative Labs
If you are interested in the marketing domain, let me tell you that Jio Creative Labs carries a strong brand name and the legacy of Reliance Jio adds more value to your CV and experience. It has close connections with the TV and Bollywood industry where you can get a chance to work with renowned personalities and brands. You get a holistic experience of working in a full-service creative digital agency. Also, the company is equipped with new aged technology equipment.
Interesting? Here's a look back at my time spent at Jio Creative Labs as a Digital and Social Media Marketing Intern.
Jio Creative Labs was the first marketing company to visit our campus (ICFAI Business School (IBS), Mumbai for recruitment. I went through their website thoroughly and understood their work. The most important part of my preparation was figuring out why they should hire me and how my talents and my past experiences would offer value to them.
My interview mantra is "Don't do different things, rather do things differently".
The selection process at Jio Creative Labs
The selection process of Jio Creative Labs consisted of 4 rounds:
- The first round was a 2-minute elevator pitch based on the given criteria.
- The second round was a 10-minutes group discussion. There were 8 people in a group in my turn.
- The third round was a make-or-break round. Students had to make PPT based on particular situations, including preparing a logo, coming up with campaign lines for the topic, and devising a strategy to make any video viral. We were given 45 minutes to prepare for this round.
- The fourth round was a personal interview. After successfully cracking the interview process, I was offered the role of a digital and social media marketing intern.
The ninja trick to get into Jio Creative Labs
I believe that the company chose me because I portrayed my creative skills, application of how my past experience will add value to the organization, and a strong learning desire.
Soft skills like - fluent communication skills, problem-solving skills, creative thinking, learning desire, and strong presence of mind will be beneficial for future applicants.
Talking of the hard skills, affiliation with content writing (content creation), business development, digital marketing, research and strategy formulation, and awareness about current marketing trends and campaigns of brands can give an extra edge to clear the GD round.
My 360-degree summer internship experience
It was not just an internship, it was a 360-degree experience! My summer internship experience at Jio Creative Labs was extremely phenomenal. It was flooded with a plethora of opportunities to brush up on my marketing and interpersonal skills.
Visiting the office was always exciting and lively. We often played games whenever we took breaks. Every intern was given a digital trump card that had one strength and one weakness. There was a surprise for all interns that once our weekly meeting was gatecrashed by Sonu Nigam. We even had a workshop on creative writing hosted by Boman Irani.
There were regular workshops held to upgrade our marketing knowledge and its application. One of the cherishable evenings was conducting a virtual event - Jio’s Got Talent where interns and mentors showcased their talent. There were many team-building activities that created a synergy and balance between our work. It was an absolute fun-learning experience that added value to my marketing skills and knowledge.
I worked for the best brands and personalities in the country during my summer internship at Jio Creative Labs. Majorly my work revolved around prospecting budget brands, decoding client and brand briefs by providing them with solution-centric ideas, preparing pitch deck presentations, ideating social media go-to-content strategy models, competitor analysis, creating personalized mood boards, client servicing for their social media handles, and creating engaging content ideas.
The ‘intern of the week’ moment
In the digital segment of the ‘Kiska Brand Bajega’ - Marketing and Advertising show, I got an opportunity to virtually host Vishal Jethwa (Actor, Mardani 2) through Instagram Live. Also, it was an absolute delight when Jacqueline Fernandez posted about me and my mother’s effort to help people in Covid - 19 on her social media handle (Instagram). This was also covered by an article through Socialnews.xyz.
And above all, I was announced as “Intern of the week” during my tenure.
However, one of the challenges that I faced was short deadlines. In a short span of time, I had to come up with creative and engaging social media content ideas. Thus, I used my break time to surf social media trends to take inspiration for my content ideas.
But in this hustle, I learned how to strategically pitch clients, creatively present my ideas, analyze social media trends, mind mapping skills, create social media content creation, and had hands-on experience with personality branding during client servicing.
One piece of advice that I would like to give to my juniors is that it is a huge platform to change your ideas into reality. Creative ideas and learning desire is what keeps you going on here!
