  • Established in November 1961, IIM Calcutta is the 1st national institute for post-graduate studies and research in management set-up by the Government of India in collaboration with the Government of West Bengal, The Ford Foundation, Alfred P. Sloan School of Management (MIT), and Indian industry.
  • Many prominent faculty including J. K. Sengupta, Jagdish Sheth, among others, constituted a part of its nucleus during its initial years.
  • Over the years, IIM Calcutta has grown into a mature institution, playing a pioneering role in professionalizing Indian management through its doctoral and postgraduate level programs, executive training programs, consulting, and research activities.
