The Common Admission Test (CAT) is one of the most popular entrance examinations across India. Conducted by the IIMs (Indian Institute Of Management) on a rotational basis, CAT is a gateway to the prestigious management institutes across India. This year the examination would be held on November 27 (tentative).

CAT 2022 Details
There are 20 IIMs across India that are responsible for conducting the Common Admission Test (CAT) on a rotational basis. These are:

CAT 2022: Exam Pattern
The CAT exam is held on the basis of a Computer Based Test (CBT) across multiple examination centres in India. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the examination pattern was altered by the CAT committee. Here are a few changes made to the examination -
- Total number of questions reduced from 100 to 76
- Examination duration reduced from 180 minutes to 120 minutes
- Total number of questions reduced again from 76 to 66

There are three sections in the CBT with specific weightage namely:
- Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC)
- Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR)
- Quantitative Aptitude (QA)

CAT 2022: Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum of 50% in aggregate (45% for SC/ST/PWD candidates) or equivalent from a recognized university.
- Candidates in their final year of a Bachelor's degree or those awaiting their results are also eligible to take the CAT exam.
- Those with professional qualifications such as CA/CS/ICWA are also eligible to take the CAT.
Candidates who plan to take the CAT exam should practice answering previous year's question papers to become familiar with the types of questions that will be asked. This exam attracts over two lakh applicants. As a result, the competition for passing it is fierce. For General category students the CAT cut-off percentile for top IIMs is estimated to be around 98-100. For newer IIMs the cut-off is comparatively lower.
