HDFC Bank & GoSports Launch Scholarship For Female Athletes With Funding Support Of Up To INR 10 Lakhs Yearly!

In India, women’s sports are never paid much attention while men’s sports events are treated as mega-events. In order to address this disparity and aid in the development of women’s sports, HDFC Bank and GoSports Foundation have launched a scholarship. This scholarship will support national and international level women athletes and coaches and help them achieve their dreams.

As per reports, the scholarship has been named “Unstoppable - Karke Dikhaungi” and it will provide between INR 5-10 Lakhs yearly to talented women athletes and INR 5 Lakhs to coaches in two phases.

Deserving athletes from state and national levels in a variety of sports, including Olympic, Paralympic, Winter Games, and Motorsports will be eligible to apply for this scholarship.

More Details On The Scholarship Programme

To excel in sports, women athletes need not only talent but also adequate resources and proper infrastructure. A lack of these provisions forces many young athletes to drop out early in their journey. As a result, this scholarship scheme will provide financial support to women athletes and coaches so that they don’t have to abandon their dearly held dreams.

“This programme is designed to eliminate some of these gaps so that our athletes and coaches can achieve excellence in their disciplines. It is our endeavor to discover talent and help them achieve greatness on the national and international stage,” said Ashima Bhat, Group Head-CSR, Business Finance, and Infrastructure, HDFC Bank.

The programme will support these athletes’ training, equipment, coaching, and sports science requirements. In addition to that, this programme will also work towards increasing equality and inclusivity in Indian sports, which will in turn promote the growth of new women champions and role models for society.

Deepthi Bopaiah, CEO of GoSports Foundation commented, “Over the decades, there have been many special milestones created by women sporting champions, who have scripted history and have contributed towards changing stereotypes, breaking barriers, and inspiring communities through sport."

Application Process For The Scholarship

Applications will be accepted for a month, from May 24 until June 24, 2022.

Athletes who have been shortlisted for the following phases will be called in for internal evaluations and additional shortlisting, which will also include feedback from coaches and experts, interview rounds, and due diligence.

The athlete selection procedure will take up to 100 days.

Finally, scholarships and comprehensive aid will be awarded to 20 athletes for their sporting journeys at critical junctures in their careers.

In the third round of this process, the top 100 athletes will have access to educational workshops on a range of themes throughout the year. Coaches will be able to apply for yearly scholarships in the second phase of the programme. They will be given financial and non-financial support for their growth and development.
